Why did you point out 2018, could it be because that was the only class ISU signed at least 2 of the top 5? How about the other years, that would 2 more out of the other 5 years. So out of those other 5 years, we signed 2 out of the top 25 rated kids in the state.

The 2019 kids, its hard to tell, we signed 0/5 of the highest ranked kids, 2020 ISU signed #2, 6, 7 & 10. Iowa #1, 4, 5, 8. Which group would you rather have?

Class of 2021, ISU has a commitment from #12, 17, 19 and are in on # 14. Iowa from the same class, #,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10.
I see that you weren’t honest enough to answer the question. Integrity matters.

And since you clearly couldn’t figure It out for yourself, I’ll answer your question. The only reason I picked the 2018 Class is because as I worked backwards, it was the first one that all of the players involved had had a chance to come off a redshirt and play.

For that matter, from the opposite direction it was the first class that CMC had had a chance to fully involve himself with after being hired and getting established. Recruiting is really at least a two year process, after all.

I gave you a chance, so now I’ll answer myself. Trevor Downing is at least equal to Tyler Linderbaum. Unsurprisingly, Zach Petersen > Waggoner. Matter of fact, thus far he’s been better than Waggoner and Doyle put together.

ipso facto, thus far ISU had the better Instate recruiting class.

The reason I asked the question is to show just how irrelevant the subjective recruiting rankings you solely base your arguments on are.

I’ll be polite, and wish you luck grasping that point. It would probably be best for everyone.

Nebraska told him he can play 3-4 OLB for them like TJ Watt for Wisconsin and Pittsburgh. He wanted that. We couldn't offer that.
That’s not what you said, though. What you said is that when a kid grows up being a huge fan, going to games with their Dad, etc—all of which applies to Blaise Gunnerson as a kid—that other teams don’t have any chance.

It doesn’t work both ways.

This staff knows when they have a chance and when they don't. I would rather see them cut their losses with a kid they don't feel they have a shot with and shift focus elsewhere. They aren't going to try to flip a kid that will be a long shot. Its just not worth the time or resources.
That's exactly what Jim Walden and his staff did. Loser mentality.

Truly we have no clue how these players will turn out, we just don't. The kids ISU signed show promise, I bet Iowa fans would say the same for theirs.

If you and the others want to continue to get our ass kicked on the in state recruiting trail, have it. I tend to think we can do better.

Why did you point out that one class, and not the others? I guess you are not honest enough to answer my question, remember integratory matters.

There are some more Iowa Kids I want in the 2020 Class and I hope we get most of them but you can't build a Top 3 Class in the Big 12 with to many Iowa Kids. With that said here is list of the Iowa HS Kids I still want.

Looks like we're recruiting them all very hard even though a couple of them are projected as sure bets to go elsewhere.

In every one of Stansbury's Coach's Corner pieces about the '21 class, the coaches he interviews mention that ISU's staff works as hard or harder than anyone on the trail. I'm just a guy who reads CF like everyone else--I have no inside information. I'm assuming everyone else knows as little as I do, so I guess I don't understand why one might think the staff isn't already doing everything they can in-state, or in recruiting in general. The staff that has landed the best recruiting classes in ISU history, practically year-over-year, gets the benefit of the doubt in my book.

Like a business, the strategy part of recruiting is resource allocation and the return on that investment. If you pour more resources into recruiting Iowa, are you gaining more than you're losing elsewhere in opportunity cost? Campbell's been a successful head coach, a program CEO, for nearly nine years now. I trust he knows the math.

Why did you chose 2018 instead of 2017 or 2016? You said "The only reason I picked the 2018 Class is because as I worked backwards, it was the first one that all of the players involved had had a chance to come off a redshirt and play."

So you took the ONE year that ISU signed 2 of the top 5, ignored the other 5 years where we signed 2 of the remaining 25 as your example. And then want to talk about integrity. What is this Fox news?

all you can do is reach out. If the kid tells you he’s not interested, there’s nothing more you can do at that point.

the absolute last thing that I would accept from Campbell is to go all McCarney and sign Iowa kids because they’re Iowa kids. For every Sage and JJ, there were 10 guys that should have been playing at uni.

No one is saying signing Iowa kids just because they are from Iowa, what I am saying is signing the top kids in the state. The two are completely different issues, but many want to lump them together.

For years Iowa fans liked to point out that ISU under Mac, pointed to the Cy-Hawk game as the most important on the schedule. A lot of our fans, downplayed that idea, when we were winning the game.
Now since we are on a 5 game losing streak, to me it does become important, as important as a conference game, no way, but its still an important early test for the team. And I hope that the staff realizes that, just like with instate recruiting. To be the best you have to sign the best players in state, unless you are a national team like ND or Oregon.

You think it’s because we’re losing to them that they don’t come here?

a lot of these kids grew up watching hawk football, and are fans because of it. Plus they’ve conditioned themselves on how amazing big 10 football is.

It’s an uphill battle, one that will take more than 4 years to overcome.

win enough, and you will ultimately have real chances with even the most diehard hawk fans
