I will get into details at a later time but along with our tech team (Sam, Jeremy, etc.), we have decided to switch our forum software to XenForo when the new site launches this summer.

A few quick details (as I want you all to be well aware of what is happening before it happens):

--- None of your information on the current forum will be lost. Everything (posts, history, PM's, etc) is transferrable.

--- There are two main reasons for us doing this. The first is that we want the site to be 100 percent mobile. The switch will allow us to do this. The second is that V-Bulletin has really gone downhill over the years. It is no longer properly being developed, which means there are security risks with staying here and we can't bring you guys as many cool functions as you deserve.

--- The new forums will have a version of CyBookie!

Just a few things. I know change sucks but we are hiring a specialist to make it as similar to the current version of CF as possible. Trust me, this change will be for the better once you get used to it.

You should probably be careful saying this during an election year.

Can't really be upset by that. It's hard to improve/move forward without making some kinds of changes.

Yeah our hands are tied here. The guys who invented the original V-Bulletin sold the company and now have created XenForo. It is the forum of the future. We have to make a switch if we want to improve the site, which is always our goal.

The new site is going to be sooooooooooooo much better on mobile too. We suck there right now.

Added bonus, we can weed out some of those crotchety old folks that won't be able to figure out the new system.

CyBookie..... Hmmm Does everyone start all over with credits? I seem to remember a 2nd or 3rd credit mortgage on my house. Hopefully, you have no records of that anymore.

Are you guys going to allow the integration or sign on ability with G+, Twitter, or Facebook?

Will you guys ban more people from just threads (a feature in XF) or stick to an all out ban on the forum?

Will you guys be adding anything else that we see besides CyBookie? Common ones I see are Chat, Giphy Intergration, Twitter AutoLinker etc.

Are you guys going to install that one add-on that forces people to turn off Ad-Blocker?

Will you guys be doing the whole site under XF like AVForums does with their articles/podcasts or just the forums?

TIA!

Define "this summer". August? December? 2036?

Anyone have a good example of a forum that currently is hosted on the XenForo platform? Would just be interested in checking it out.

I also wouldn't bother too much with the specialist to make it mimic the current format of CF. People will get over change, they may whine a bit to start out, but they'll accept it in the end. It's really CycloneAddict instead of CycloneFanatic, they'll stick around.

https://www.avforums.com/ or https://www.avforums.com/forums/ is a great example of the power of XF. Their entire site is run on the framework.

HN is on it too I believe.

That is not going to happen to any extent. Most of us crotchety old folks have figured this computer thingy out by now or we have
recycled ours by now. Shoot, my 86 year old mother did her own update to Windows 10 with no assistance and no problems. The only way you will get rid of us old hooters is for us to die.

Second the integrations. Twitter embeds would be nice, as would the ability to link gifv\webm files (saves bandwidth for everyone).
