Investigating self install home security systems and comparing to professional monitoring systems. I'd be interested in any thoughts Fanatics may have, any things we may want to avoid.

We have a Simplisafe system but don't really use it anymore. Had no issues with it when we did other than one of the door monitors fell off when we were out of town and the sheriff sent us a nasty letter about getting false break-in calls.

Been running a Reolink PoE system for years. Modular and expandable. Prices are reasonable. Actually received their doorbell today to get rid of our unreliable Ring Gen 2. Won't miss paying that subscription for so-so performance.

We have three big dogs but we take them with us on long camping/hiking trips so we still use SimpliSafe.

Our block is 10 identical townhomes and same one was broken into three times so we suspect it was tied to former occupant specifically…yet the other 9 all got SimpliSafe when this happened.

Either Black Friday or Cyber Monday a few years back I bought a Blink doorbell for the front door, and a Blink Floodlight for the back door. I think it’s like $30 each for the year subscription, or $3 a month. Without the subscription you can see the live view, but I like having the motion recordings with the sub.

I’ve been happy with it though.
