For what it's worth, here's one of the challenges that you guys are going to have to get around. Last year, we were able to keep a lot of pressure on Purdy in the pocket. While we only had two sacks in the game, we forced five qb hurries and twice as many near hurries that didn't make the stat sheet. That was with a young defensive line working against a veteran offensive line.

In last year's game, your o-line was LT-Good- Jones, LG Downing, C Olsen, RG Knipfell and LG Meeker. This year only Olsen returns, but it looks like he's out for weeks, if not the entire season.

So now the experience tables have turned. OSU brings back the entire front six from last year's team. We also are adding JC DE Irby who returned a fumble for a TD against WVU and LB Calvin Bundage, who missed all of last year. Bundage is a pass rush specialist who currently is, in conference games only, the leader in sacks/game at 2.5. The three guys that picked off Purdy passes in the fourth quarter are all back.

I don't see how your green offensive line can be better at protecting Purdy in the pocket than last year's line, especially with every Cowboy is back, a year stronger and better. Tell me why I'm wrong.
While our line is much less experienced, the last 3 games they have played really well (probably have done a better job run blocking than pass blocking). TCU we gave up 2 sacks, Oklahoma we gave up 1 sack, Tech we gave up 0 sacks. Now, I am well aware that Oklahoma State has a better defensive front than those teams, so I won't be surprised to see us give up some sacks.

If Iowa State wins, its because we will have been able to establish the run against you. Last year Purdy threw 62 passes against Oklahoma State, and I still don't understand why they did that. If that is our game plan again, then we won't win.

Last year ISU nearly abandoned the run (63 pass plays) which allowed the OSU front 6 to just pin their ears back and rush on every down. Expect the game plan to be much more balanced with a back nearly as capable as Hubbard. This less experienced line has actually held up pretty well with only 4 sacks surrendered on the season and have been able to create holes for an effective rushing attack. You may get pressure on Purdy but they are going to have to respect the run much more than they had to last year. Also, expect to see a lot of 13 personnel for both running and passing the ball. All three TEs can block, catch and run. (At least one of them can pass the ball too. ;) ) You won't necessarily be able to key "run" or "pass" based on personnel.

It would be nice to not have had the O-Line injuries we have suffered but the young guys have performed.

Our green offensive line has given up 4 sacks in 4 games, against the defensive lines of OU, TCU and a pretty experienced line at UL, not Kansas, Tulsa, and WVU. You have your pass rush specialists and we have #3 Bailey back that you didn't see last year. You may be correct on our line performance but if you look at who we have played and our rushing offense and total offense is pretty comparable to yours and I would argue we have played better defenses than OSU. I know you have played WVU, which have great defensive stats, but I am not convinced at the end of the year they will be the best defensive team in the Big 12.

It should be a good game Saturday, I am looking forward to good teams playing well and see what happens.

I'm expecting a trendline performance where the OL gives up -1 sack.

West Virginia has played Kansas (last passing and last rushing offense in conference play) and Baylor (9th passing and 9th rushing offense in conference play) in addition to OSU. I agree that that is not a good measuring stick for their defense. Baylor's only other conference game was the woeful Jayhawks so it isn't like they have faced a juggernaut.

OSU is no doubt very good, but they haven't really faced a test. I think they will on Saturday.

Respectfully, I think you're wrong given the fact that our offensive line already looks better than it did last year. Not as experienced, but better.

We essentially brought back our entire defense from last year as well as gained experience and probably have overall the best defensive line in the conference. If not, then it's 1b. I could care less that you brought back the three guys that picked Purdy off last year. Last year's game doesn't mean anything in respect to this game.

Our "green" line CAN be better at protecting Purdy because they HAVE been better.

With all that being said, I have no clue who's going to win this game. You guys seem to be a very good team and we're going to have to bring our A game to come out of there with a win.

The game is all going to come down to Purdy, if he is on his game, we will win. If we get his first week performance, we are in trouble.

All of those shorter swing passes to Breece, Landon A, and others needs to continue. We need to spread their defense out wide before running up the middle. Short pass to open the run game. Oh and it wouldn't hurt if we could get a couple long shots deep (i'm looking at YOU Xavier Hutchinson and Charlie).

I put a $5 parlay bet on ISU ML +128 and KSU -19.5 -114. Payout is going to be $21.43. Yes, I am confident in that payout coming my way. ;)

Well, you were spot on. And we helped things out by staying in the pocket.
