So when do we get to host a regional?

If not in Ames in Des Moines? They pointed out how Minnesota was 16-1 in NCAA tournament games in their gym. Make that 16-2 now, with both losses to ISU. While some have been first and second round games, they seem to have got to host plenty of regionals lately. Last night's crowd was listed at somewhere in the 3,000's. Was it a sell-out? If so that seems like it might be a small venue for a game so large. While you run the risk of not having a local team to bring the crowd, it would seem like a 5,000 or more venue would be desirable.

I don't get why more NCAA events aren't in Omaha and Des Moines.

They're both ridiculously superior markets to many mid size markets with professional sports. All you have to do is look at the empty seats, especially for NCAA hoops anywhere in the south or southwest.

Omaha has hosted frequently - we went to that regional two years ago for essentially the Big XII tournament of the NCAAs, and they've hosted the Final Four at least twice, and possibly more that I don't remember.

2014 as someone already said. If we keep performing well and filling Hilton when we host 1st and 2nd rounds, we'll get the recognition to host regionals. The good news is we are very central for several good teams - us, Nebraska, UNI, Minnesota (and probably Texas too, based on regional locations this year), so hopefully we'll get that chance more often in the future.
