I thought it was a very good movie. Anyone who is a fan of the original series should definitely go see it. Our crowd applauded at the end - and of course whenever a reference was made to Iowa. The humor was really good - it almost felt like a parody a couple times.

I definitely liked the movie. Maybe not great, but pretty dang good. Good action and humor and drama, it really flew by. Dr. Mccoy was spot on, probably my favorite but the actors who played Kirk and Spock did a good job stepping into those iconic roles. Wouldn't mind if they slowed the action down a little to show more detail, but overall the special effects were great.

Wish they would have gotten a real Russian to play Chekov though, that fake accent was awful.

LOL.

Anton Yelchin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yelchin was born in Leningrad, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, USSR (now Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation), the son of Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchin, figure skaters who were national celebrities as stars of the Leningrad Ice Ballet for 15 years.[1][2] Yelchin's parents qualified for the 1972 Winter Olympics, but because they were Jewish, were not permitted to participate by the Soviet authorities.[1][2] Yelchin's family moved to the United States in September 1989, receiving status as refugees from political and religious oppression.[1][2] Yelchin's mother now works as a figure skating choreographer and his father as a figure skating coach, having been Sasha Cohen's first trainer.[3] Yelchin's uncle is painter Eugene Yelchin.

And the original chekov was born in Chicago.

Hookay, that was pretty good. Yes, yes, very well done. With a movie of this hype and calibur, even if I enjoy the film, I always tend to find things that bothered me or that I would have improved... but I couldn't find anything wrong with it.

The dialogue, which usually makes or breaks a film, was top notch. I was afraid previously, after they'd unveiled the cast a year or so back, that this would be Star Trek meets 90201, but the characters were very believable and likable. The effects were out of this world good, and will probably run away with any visual effects awards during awards season. J.J. Abrams, while he's clearly shown his capability as a producer and a director... I felt like this was his best effort ever. Even better than the pilot episode of Lost.

I'm a little worried about it myself. The reviews are so strong and so many people are hyping it that I'm afraid I'm going to be expecting too much.

Just got back from seeing it. Pretty much what I said in my previous post. IMO, it was good, but not great. Oddly enough, as a longtime Star Trek fan I have no problem with it. But as a fan of movies in general, I thought it could have been better. Even I would think that it would be the other way around, but somehow it's not.

Loved it! As someone who grew up with this franchise, I thought it was great. Talk about breathing new life into an old concept! Can't wait for the next installment!

Last Sat Nite, they showed the very first episode on KCCI - The Cage, filmed in late 1964, if you can believe that. It was Capt. Pike and of the main cast only Spock (liked to yell back then) was on the show. I wonder how that figures into the new movie?

Watched the film today...thought it was very good. The first 3/4 of the film was really good and top notch. But the climax just seemed typical Star Trek to me. Don't want to say more and spoil the end for others. I guess I was just hoping for more, but probably only because of all the rave reviews and comments I read about it.

Going tomorrow night with the gf who also loves sci-fi. Can't wait. Never seen Star Trek but I'm sure I'll get hooked.

If you've never seen Star Trek, this is a great way to start, although it might be setting the bar a little high for the future, (no pun intended).

It stays pretty true to the original character bios with a few clever twists and manipulations. The new Spock, (straight from Heroes), does an excellent job, I was concerned if anybody could play the role nearly as well as Leonard Nimoy, and Zachary Quinto pulled it off flawlessly!

It's got the potential for numerous sequels, as long as they can get top-notch storylines. This new set of leading characters definitely have talent and charisma and were very well cast.

I saw it Ames last night, but am pretty sure I'm going to have to see the IMax version, as well. With all the action and superb CGI, it will be money well spent.

Oh yeah, I thought the mention of Admiral Archer was pretty cool, too.

I give it a definite A, most people will really enjoy it. The cast was excellent, acting solid, interesting plot. It was more about the characters and how they come together than the antagonist (crazy romulan played by Eric Bana).

Best moment: I never thought I'd see Harold from Harold and Kumar, the guy who brought us the word "milf" in American Pie, totally kicking romulan *** with a samurai sword.

So what type of hand-to-hand combat were you trained in?
:biglaugh:

Good movie.

I was worried there was no way to live up to the hype when I saw it last night, but it was incredible. Looking forward to more movies with this cast, they were great.
