The Ultimate Conference Alignment for Iowa State

Thought i'd ask what everyone thinks the ideal conference for Iowa State would be, if you could design it now. (Purely an academic exercise, i know it won't happen in my lifetime). Forget TV revenue, just the ideal, rival-based conference for ISU.

I'd say the two biggest criteria would be geography and tradition. An even number of teams would be good as well.


# teams: 8 (in order of priority)

Iowa State
Iowa
Minnesota
Nebraska
Kansas
Wisconsin
Kansas St.
Missouri

If you make it 10 teams, then I'd add Illinois and Purdue. But i like the eight team format, and round-robin play. This would be the Midwest, blue-collar, equivalent of the Black and Blue division.

Interesting Question... I think mine would look alot like yours actually.

I think that conference includes alot of big schools, good academics, and would be balanced between football and basketball.

I agree but for this exercise, I would add Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin because I kind like 12 team set-up just don't like the Texas schools (if we are taking money out of the picture)
