MLB.com - Royals ace Zack Greinke will make his first Opening Day start in 2010.

Greinke was the 2009 AL Cy Young winner after a 16-8, 2.16-ERA season.

"Zack is starting on Opening Day and Gil [Meche] will pitch Game 2, barring anything unforeseen, and both those guys know that already," manager Trey Hillman said.

Hope Hillman doesn't jinx him

The Royals would be the biggest disgrace to baseball if he didn't start on opening day. There is no reason other than injury to not start him.

Not debating whether or not Greinke deserved the award...I thought he did. But is 16 games won the lowest win total for a starting pitcher who won the Cy Young award?

Royals who? I'll start recognizing a Kansas City baseball team when they dig their way out of the bottom of the AL Central every year.

Its pretty close... I think it was the lowest number of games won by a Cy Young winner in a year that other pitchers had more wins.

Thank God the Cy Young voters used their heads and gave the award to Greinke, who was clearly the best pitcher, on a team with the worst defense in the league no less! Wins are the most overrated stat in baseball because so much of the stat it outside the pitchers control.

You will start recognizing them? I hope they bust their butts for the honor of being recognized by random people on message boards.

So, does your MLB League only have like 27 teams or so? Must be hard to fill out a schedule that doesn't include the Royals, Pirates, and Nationals.

Also the Royals were 4th two years ago (out of the bottom) and tied for 4th last year, so by your own standards you'd better recognize!

KXNO 1460 still broadcasting Royals games this year? I'm guessing not.

The Royals are going to have a White Sox look this year! Brian Anderson, Scott Posednik, Josh Fields and Chris Getz could all be on their roster...and for Royal fans...I am not so sure that is a good thing! As for Greinke...no doubt he is the real deal!
