Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano will be put on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of a sore back, major league baseball sources told ESPNChicago.com

Zambrano took himself out of his start Friday night just 15 minutes before the game against the Colorado Rockies with what was described as a lower back injury. He left the field during his warmup, and reliever Sean Marshall was thrown in as the emergency starter.
In the meantime, the Cubs most likely will call up right-handed pitcher Jeff Stevens from Triple-A Iowa.:no:

This is bad. I think Lilly is still a couple weeks from returning. The Cubs have five great starters, plus a pretty good sixth starter, but that doesn't mean much if two of those starters are on the DL. Who steps into the rotation? Marshall seems the most likely, but he's not an ideal starter (although it's not fair to judge him by his emergency start last night). Shark is projected as a starter, but he doesn't seem ready yet. I don't see anyone at Iowa who looks ready to jump into an MLB starter.

Getting Gorz all the sudden is looking to be a valuable part of the Grabow deal. Tribune is saying that Samardzija may take Z's spot for now.
