Re: ISU ranked No. 10 in preseason AVCA Top 25 Volleyball Poll
Sweet. Always good to see our team get some good recognition. I've thought for a long time that our volleyball team doesn't even get enough recognition from even our own fanbase that they deserve. If you haven't given volleyball a shot as a sport you follow closely, you are truly missing the boat.
Volleyball and CJL's teams are a blast to watch and might turn out to be as close to a competitive dynasty (when all is said and done) we'll ever see out of one of our athletic programs in the future, outside of wrestling. If she does this for all her career, one could argue that it could be more impressive than some of our wrestling feats we've accomplished at this school when you use the perspective that nearly every college program period competes in women's volleyball, and only a select few schools have wrestling program. She'll at least be up there close to some of our Wrestlings best.
As for how to watch, there is always attending the games, but if you don't know this already, nearly every home game is usually broadcast on Clonezone/Cyclones.tv. With the new Cyclones.tv, my expecation is that the coverage and quality will only get better. This is how I follow the team. I hope more follow suit.

We're going down to Champaign to see the matches against Illinois. Can't wait!

Awesome! Our program taught my wife and I how to watch volleyball. I hope we keep winning and bringing people aboard!

I'm the same. I didn't know much at all about volleyball before I started watching them. I've learned what I do know along the way.
Re: ISU ranked No. 10 in preseason AVCA Top 25 Volleyball Poll
Christy put together a meat grinder in non-conference this year:
RV Cincinnati - Neutral
#12 Florida State - Neutral
#15 Tennessee - Away (same day as FSU match)
#7 Illinois - Away DH
#21 Northern Iowa - Home
#4 Nebraska - Home
Strength of schedule will not be a concern come tournament time.

I wouldn't blame our fan base. They're great. It is embarassing, though, that a program of this stature doesn't even have a radio network for home and away matches.

I agree. It would sure be nice someday to have that. However, I'd like to see them start with some audio commentary at least for their Cyclones.tv video feed. While I love watching them online, it would be way better with some commentary. I'm hoping that is one of the upgrades that comes with the Cyclones.tv upgrade. It also wouldn't hurt to upgrade the video quality on the feed. The Clonezone video quality was terrible at best.

that OOC schedule is nutso... esp @Illinois
Re: ISU ranked No. 10 in preseason AVCA Top 25 Volleyball Poll
Totally agree about the recognition topic. CJL deserves MUCH better.
Example. When Hilton was flooded, JP announced that everything possible would be done to have Hilton ready for the season openers for MBB and WBB. Not a word about VB. All he had to say was "...and to bring VB back home." No cost, no pain. Just a simple acknowledgememt of the importance of VB.
Wouldn't hurt to have assigned seating for season ticket holders either. I understand that 1200 ST is not a lot, but sends a message....
Also agree with comments on the pre-season. CJL isn't looking to round up cream puffs. She has ambitions for her team - and we should too. And so should JP!!
Go Christy!

While this schedule is fairly crazy, it isn't our first tough preseason schedule we've had. The best thing about it though is that, in the past, we've always stepped up to the challenge and really performed well against the good competition in the pre-conference. I expect the same thing this year too. Also, I really think the volleyball rankings, of all the sports out there, do a very good job of considering your SOS in their rankings. Even if they drop a few, they shouldn't get punished too bad in the rankings.
Re: ISU ranked No. 10 in preseason AVCA Top 25 Volleyball Poll
That's great. Sometimes I wonder what Bobby Peterson thinks up at UNI. She used to be king of the hill in the state, but no longer.
Re: ISU ranked No. 10 in preseason AVCA Top 25 Volleyball Poll
While ISU has clearly passed UNI the past few years, I'm still impressed with what UNI does up there year in and year out. The thing that is really cool about both ISU's and UNI's programs is that they nearly do it with all local (Iowa) or relatively local (Nebraska) girls. Having two programs so strong in a state made up of local girls is really impressive, and a great testament to our high school/AAU volleyball programs within our state.

I think for how quick this program has rose, it seems to get the attendance near other programs. 15th last yeart

If anything, I was P'od that they year they were at Ames High you couldn't watch matches, but I think the IT crew/video crew has a whole lot on their plate, and it wasn't their fault. If anything, this group has done a lot with the resources they have, and they could use more than just one paid staff person and stop relying on interns as heavily.
Some commentary would be good. But we don't get that for WBB games either.

Top 15 is pretty solid for sure, however, I think Cyclone fans have the ability to easily shoot us up into the top 10 (at least beat UNI). Isn't our women's basketball easily in the top 10 (my expecatations aren't for 1:1 attendance in general as WBB is more popular in general) for attendance every year? If so, top 10 should also be our expectation from our fans for volleyball too (look at attendance numbers, it shouldn't be that hard), especially beings how our volleyball has arguably outperformed WBB over the last 5 years. That isn't a slight to WBB at all either.
