ISU wins! 15-9, 3-2
That was not a good match for us. We were flat, she better start finding a way to bring out some real emotion on this team. Why other teams are setting up on us to block so easily needs to be addressed.
So, redshirting Hudson appears to be not happening. Did I miss her play yet this year until tonight? Not good, our sets are still off on the timing this far into the season.
Yeah...something isn't working right with this team so far. Can't believe Iowa came back to tie it at 2 after how ridiculously bad they looked in set 2.
Glad we got the win, even if it wasn't as convincing as it could have been.
Def. not our best game. We played good in the first 2 sets, but then for some reason stopped. After going to a couple of games, I agree with isuno1fan, in that our blocking needs to get better; iowa should never have more blocks then us. Also, i felt like the setting wasn't good. So my conclusion is that the pressure of being a top 10/5 team and making the final 4 this season is getting to us a little. But it's still early!
I just hope the football game tomorrow isn't as close as that volleyball game was.

Iowa may have run out of gas in that last game like we did against Tenn. While they may not be a top 25 team they play in a conference loaded with them. They are not going to me star-struck or back down in against their in-state, ranked rival. At the same time, our ladies may have let there guard down after an easy win earlier and jumping out to a 2-0 lead in this one. Young team still learning how to play together. I'm not worried yet.
We seem to play better in early sets, and, when it goes five sets, we are then under the gun? Is that our trademark this year?
We didn't move with the same energy or urgency in sets 3 and 4. Seemed like the team (and us fans) got complacent. Iowa did enough to hang in there, won that wild ending to the 3rd set, and just kept hanging around.
Watching the team move to set things up offensively in the 1st and 2nd was just so much quicker, sharper, and aggressive. Not the same team at all until the 5th set.
Questions for those with more volleyball experience.
Does ISU have the hitting power of last year? Did Jensen and Peterson swing a lot harder (or smarter?) than the current front line? Or are the sets just not consistently there yet for this year's hitters?
What is the bigger problem with the block -- not getting in position, or not being strong enough to hold position? Seems like the players with more upper body strength don't get in position, and the ones who get there, have slighter upper body builds.
How different was the player rotation against Iowa, and did this give Iowa an advantage?
Also, we need video footage of the guy knocking Cy's head off while they celebrated winning the "find it" contest thing.
Nice sweep in the first match, but we sure have had a lot of matches that have gone the full 5 sets so far this year.
