Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***
At one time volleyball was totally dominated by the left coast. That has changed over the last 30 years and they are still having award time accepting it.

That is obvious. And all the whining about Hawaii gets old. Schedule some tournaments on the mainland, don't lose to ****** teams, and you'll get a better placement. I would say the B1G is the top conference this year, and I'll root for them far before I'll root for the PAC.

Tough to see Miami lose to College of Charleston as I've got a couple friends on the team :x
Our girls seem 250% resilient this tournament, invaluable in every round

It was pathetic that they were matched up with Washington so soon in the tourney. That was a great, great match.
Seeding a mediocre Kansas team, and then sending unseeded Hawaii to Seattle is just riduculous.

Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***
Hawaii is a good team and KU was absolutely a fraud - but the committee plays the RPI game and KU killed Hawaii in that (7th vs 17th). Washington was 16th. Do I think Hawaii would have swept KU in a head to head? Yes. But if they want a better placement, they need to play the game. And of course because of the cost, the NCAA is always going to err on the side of bringing them to the mainland over flying 3 teams down there. That's not entirely fair, but money talks. I thought it was more unfair that the B1G has 4/7 teams in the same bracket.

The purpose of seeding is to prevent the best teams or individuals from playing too early in a tournament. That's true for basketball, wrestling, tennis, volleyball, etc. If you just want rely on data and spreadsheets to do seeding, then my mom and dad and uncle and aunt could do it!
Seeding is about evaluating and distributing the beat teams. Kansas (and Kentucky) were a LONG way from being one of the 16 best teams. Hawaii certainly is.

I don't disagree with you, but it's been fairly clear the last few years that the committee mostly goes off of RPI and then does some geographic movements. Although why Kentucky got a seed is as big a mystery to you as to me.

Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***
Maybe NCAA Volleyball seeding will change now that the might Pac 12 got the shaft on the Hawaii/Washington seeding. Seems real familiar to me when three Big 12 teams were in the same bracket, and everyone else told us to "lump it." Though UCLA losing to Michigan St., says maybe the Pac 12 isn't as mighty as they have made themselves out to be.

I did NOT see the match - but talked to an official who did - and said that she was tight and consistent on ball handling throughout the match.
What are the odds that she knows the game and the rules better than those of you posting?? I thought the match was called very consistently, and quite frankly have gotten fed up with all the "throwing" and double contact setting that has started to inch into NCAA volleyball, much like travelling in MBB is become more common.

Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***
While CJL has definitely has continued to upgrade the recruiting to new heights, this comparison to Stanford's recruiting shows you what we're up against.
ISU top 50 recruits:
Straube #22
Landwehr #24
Malloy #35
Bigbee #36
Nolan #40
Hudson #44
Tory Knuth is listed in her bio as Top 50, but doesn't give her rank
Stanford's Top 50:
Inky Ajanaku #2
Rachel Williams #3
Jordan Burgess #3
Carly Wopat #4
Jessica Walker #10
Brittany Howard #12
Karissa Cook #25
Three others are considered Top 50, but don't list their ranking Megan McGehee, Kyle Gilbert, and Madi Bugg.
So at least 10 players are Top 50 and five were Top 10.

Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***
Doesn't Texas have a couple #1's on their current team? Nebby has to be close as well - I know their 2013 recruits include three top 13 gets. Not at all discounting that this will be probably the toughest team we play all year, but we have played similar quality teams.

Hannah Allison - #9
Khat Bell - #2
Ashley Bannister - #12

Haley Eckerman - #5
Sara Hattis - #9
Madelyn Hutson - #13
Molly McCage - #1
Sha'Dare McNeal - #5

all but...3-4 of Texas' roster. One was ranked #73.
