SAND VOLLEYBALL
“Every recruit in the last couple years has asked us, ‘Are you going to get sand volleyball?'” With that, Nebraska has added a new sport. They have an indoor sand court and volleyball players on campus. Is this something ISU might want to look into? If we have, or could get, a facility, it might be necessary to keep up. Nebraska to add sand volleyball as spring sport : Latest Husker News “We’ve got a pretty good football conference, and we’ve got a pretty good conference overall. We’re still walking around with our heads held high and our chest out, about that.” Paul Rhoads -

That chick's name is Ned Van Iersel? I never thought I'd be attracted to someone named Ned. -
Re: SAND VOLLEYBALL
Sand volleyball makes a ton more sense for any midwestern college than crew, field hockey, and maybe some other sports as well (Big Ten schools in the region we're talking about generally). It's something young women in the region actually play before, during and after college. I imagine it's cheaper than gymnastics and swimming/diving but not advocating ISU gets rid of those sports for women.

Re: SAND VOLLEYBALL
I like the idea a lot, but doubt it would happen. While incremental cost could be fairly small at ISU also, JP seems more concerned about increasing our budgets for our existing sports, rather than starting any new sports, regardless of the small cost. I do like the idea that we could do it without adding any new scholarships or staff though. Also, isn't title 9 based on equal numbers of scholarship athletes for men and women? If that is the case, would the girls playing both sand and indoor with only one scholarship count for 1 or 2? I don't know. Regardless, even if they do count for two, two-person sand volleyball probably isn't going to have enough participants to even make much of a difference in offsetting men's scholarships.
Again, as an avid ISU volleyball fan though, I love the idea, regardless of whether it happens or not. It would be a blast to watch, it would give us volleyball to watch more year-round with our same enjoyable players we watch for indoor, and I imagine it could be a great recruiting tool for CJL to add to her arsenal. I hardly imagine it would hurt us at all on the recruiting trail, only help. Also, if we want to get to the elite level like CJL always talks about, with the likes of Nebraska/UCLA/Penn State/Stanford, we are going to have to keep up with them in all facets. I guess this will be somewhat of a measure on how serious we are about volleyball or not.

Re: SAND VOLLEYBALL
Add this to the list of "sports that should be added before baseball"

Re: SAND VOLLEYBALL
I suspect CJL, like Cook, would see this as a way to improve recruiting for an existing sport.
