Christy Johnson a candidate for UCLA job?
UCLA is looking for a new women's volleyball coach, as the legendary Andy Banachowski just retired.
Some talk in volleyball blogs that ISU's CJL would be be on the short list, especially if they want a female coach. She the top female name in the country right now.
I doubt she would leave the midwest, but if a volleyball power like UCLA phones, I'm sure she at least takes the call... Volley Talk - Banachowski retires -
Re: Christy Johnson a candidate for UCLA job?
I would assume she would be considered and hear them out... I'm only worried about if Wisconsin or Nebraska come calling... Pete Waite up in Madison hasn't been producing lately, and Cook could retire whenever he chooses...

I've seen exactly ONE person on ONE blog mention her name, then ONE other person agreed.

Re: Christy Johnson a candidate for UCLA job?
I hope she doesn't go, she is a great person, as is her husband. They have really built something special in Ames, and started from scratch. I don't think they believe their work is done yet either.

Better get used to it, I think her name is gonna get thrown out for almost any high-profile opening in the forseeable future.

Re: Christy Johnson a candidate for UCLA job?
I'm sure she's probably under consideration. And she's too smart to not entertain any courting.
But while I have no dillusions that CJL will eventually leave ISU for greener pastures (and deeper pockets).... I don't see her and Joe treking to CA.
I realize no coach will ever tell a fan/alum that "we love it here, but will leave if....". But the first words out of their mouths is how Ames is a perfect fit for them - in no small part due to it's proximity to hometowns of Omaha and Milwaukee (Madison? Joe's from somewhere over there). New baby and all.....
Might happen, but I'd be shocked.
She's never said "firmly entrenched", so I'm not too worried.

I hope she stays around. I think we will see a run at the NC in the coming years.

pollard better throw her a HUGE bone, she has one of the most successful programs at ISU right now and is making ISU a real name in the volleyball world.

Re: Christy Johnson a candidate for UCLA job?
I believe she was just resigned last off season to 5 yr/$750K.
I don't know how that compares to the elite national programs. But it has to be pretty good on a national scale.
Problem is (just like Cael and wrestling, KJ Kindler before him) how much do you throw at a coach and program that doesn't generate revenue? I'm sure JP is well aware of what he got. He was grinning ear to ear after the Texas win this season (has an AD EVER attended and ISU volleyball match before him?). He'll do what he can, I have complete faith in that.
