    WBB Recruiting

Bluder is making it hard on the other big 11 schools and turning it up on BF with her 3rd solid pick up for next.
I think on talent alone that this game should be considerably harder if not for BF being the superior coach

They've got a pretty good team already. That's going to be a tough game.

Iowa is also in on Mariah Smith a six foot wing ranked 57 by ESPN. She was at the ISU-Iowa game.

Iowa now has more athletic ability than we do. I don't know if BF's coaching ability can outweigh that or not?

Bluder has definately been outrecruiting Fennely though. It is REALLY sad.

Eh. I'd say both of those things are usually true, and yet we're still better than Iowa more years than not.

Can you WBB experts give your thoughts on why it appears ISU is struggling a bit with recruiting? I expected a pretty sick class this year coming off the Elite 8 appearance. I would think at this stage of the BF's program, based on on-court success and fan support BF would be able to pretty much pick the girls he wants after UCONN/UT/Stanford pick there girls (Not including TG, being the home town kid).

ISU's recruiting following the 1999 Elite Eight appearance was pretty lackluster. Some of that could probably be blamed on the assistant coach turnover we had, though.

I really don't know. BF goes after a lot of top players, and most don't give ISU a second look. I don't know if it's BF's reputation as a tough coach or ISU's reputation as a "system" program or what.

A couple of other possibilities: some females want to play for a female head coach; some others may prefer to major in an area where Iowa is stronger than we are.

Bluder is now gettng national-level recruits. She's never done that before, and I don't know how she's doing it now.
Fennelly has only dreamed of getting talent like this. The next few games against the Hawks will be hard to win for us.

I do think Fennely's "tough" approach scares a lot of girls away. I really do.

He makes you the best you can be, but a lot of girls are not tough enough to handle it IMO.

Lots of "tough" coaches who demand "toughness" don't yell and scream...

I'll bet Pat, Geno, Kim Mulkey, Tara, Sheri Coale have never yelled at a player - are you serious? I've been at Hilton and watched Sheri Coale and Kim Mulkey chew players out in front of everyone. Let's see two years ago after Tennessee lost to Ball State in the tourney they were practicing the next day, bet Pat was all happy that day.

This is your argument for every reason why we don't get a recruit, because Bill yells at his players to much. When you've won 498 games, get back to me on recruiting and coaching, but until then, I'm supporting the coach we have 100%.

There's a difference between yelling and screaming, and completely belittling someone. We have players on the roster now who nearly called it quits because they don't like when he gets personal. I think he's a great coach, but I also realize he's probably missing out on recruits because of how some current players are treated.

First off, quit believing that ESPN/Hoopgurlz is the gospel for rankings. There are other services, including the Blue Star Girls Report and MaxPreps.

    Blue Star Basketball

It's interesting that ESPN has Virginia Johnson at 62, and Blue Star has her 186. Dixon has a Hoopgurlz score of 40, the lowest score to be rated. Go take a look at their roster, they have one TRUE post player. They have zero depth at post since Gabby Machado transferred and JoAnne Hamblin didn't get a 6th year. It's Morgan Johnson at post, the others Kelsey Krei, Jade Rogers, Kelsey Cermak do not play under the basket.

Until Bluder wins the Big Ten regular season, she will always be second fiddle to tOSU. Honestly, the Big 10 recruits a different kind of player than the Big 12. The Big 10 is more of a slow down type of league, and there are players who like to play slow down basketball. The Big 12 is more up tempo, and not every player wants to play up tempo, therefore they choose to play slow down. If you look at this girls final choices, Vandy is very disciplined on offense and defense, and Marquette is the same way from playing in the Big East.

What BS. Fennelly recruited both Virginia Johnson and Samantha Logic. We would have loved to have had both. Big Ten schools recruited Greenfield too. Where do you get this stuff?
