Loz was our top scorer last night & had Aus been there maybe would have scored more(Aus had a size advantage Loz does not have) Jess plays alot like Denae but she needs to try to score more. She needs to take it to the basket and draw some fouls. We have to find a way to get Kelsey B some open shots. I have been to everygame except UNI and so far the other team has someone hanging on to her (and I mean hanging, holding on) every game. The bigs have to relax and quit trying so hard to score and it will come, it did last year. Agreed Anna needs to get stronger and not let so many passes go thru her hands but on defense if she even tuoches someone she is getting called for a foul while she gets pummeled. We have a long way to go and Bill will get them on track and ready fro the Big 12 season.
    This!!
Granted, Iowa was playing some salty D, but I was very surprised we didn't seem to have any idea how to get Kels a shot. With a great coach like Fennelly at the helm, it was perplexing. Bill was noticeably frustrated. ive never seen him sub players in and out at that frenzied of a pace.

On his twitter BF said he was thinking of going to a four guard lineup. I like that idea. Put Pop in the middle and play Jess, Bolte, Harris and Loz on the outside. It would be an offense of driving to the basket and shooting the three. Pop has been good at put back type shots maybe it will come back. Set Hallie on the bench and take some pressure off of her. She looked scared from the first minute of the game. She got outplayed by Draxten and Cermak that should never happen. What this will mean is a lot of minutes for the six guards and maybe a spark for this team. Maybe if the posts play one at a time they may learn how to rebound the basketball.

Bring on the Lions, if they outplay us in the post then we are in big touble. They have a 6-3 senior center who is averaging 11 points a game with 5 rebounds. We have to play better or this season could go to the dogs quickly. Go Clones and thumbs up to BF for missing that deer.

The theme of improving post play has been pretty consistent. We seem to be thinking too much, and to not have the confidence that is needed when the opponents defense takes away your first option.

BF has talked before about not wanting more than one non-shooter in the game at a time, but defensively we have needed to do that quite a bit. Obviously it would be wonderful if Jess and Chas would suddenly gain some confidence in their outside shooting. Jess need to be feeding others for 12-15 foot shots on her drives, instead of getting stuffed near the rim.

We can hope the players will have new ears in practice, and we can pass quickly to get our offense some good shots. We have great potential, we just need everyone to take the next step in their game.

Memo to womens hoops refs... STOP CALLING TRAVELS For people shuffling their feet. It makes the game more unwatchable than it is. They call travels every second, but never call carries?

The ISU player Prins is terrible. She is soft. She is slow. She is weak on D.

I do love the new ISU PG.
I'm hoping that this is just your personality shining through. Anyone who watches basketball and knows the sport quickly realizes that the women play a more pure version of the game than the men. You see more team ball, better shooters, actual plays, etc.

I wouldn't call Prins terrible and while our language is a bit blunt there is some truth there. She needs upper body strength more than anyone I've seen on our team. When you are nearly 6' 8" your footwork needs help compared to a guard. I hope she gets it. She needs some coaching or role modeling from Angie Welle.

My dad, who used to coach basketball, would absolutely agree with you. He just loves the women's game. (Unfortunately he is a dirty Hawk fan)
I am still a Men's hoops fan first and foremost, but I certainly love the Twister Sisters! I support both programs.

So you didn't see this quote in the paper?

Iowa State coach Bill Fennelly said. “They are going to be a tough out all year. And they’ll be a tough out in the NCAA Tournament. They are going to be seeded two, three, four, somewhere in there

Unless ISU is going to be a one or two seed I would say he is signaling that Iowa is better.

I thought we looked real real real sluggish last night...Come to find out, the team has the flu bug...Pop is real sick, and bolte might be too. I don't like making excuses, but that certainly didn't help our effort last night when you have nothing left in the tank...

Sounds like the flu is bad:

The Flu has hit our program hard-started yesterday and even worse today-not enough coaches and players to even practice! BAD WEEK!

If Darcie is still on the team though the semester she might get to play (have to play) if she is one that isn't sick.

Edit: Guess she isn't on the roster anymore, just saying in school till semesters end.

Coach might have to have open try outs. There are some good athletes on campus that at least would mean bodies.

that's the problem with all of them living together at Buchannon...I mean they are still around each other at practice and whatnot, but if they didn't live together, you could somehow try to avoid all the contact with anyone who is sick.

The illness aside--and I guess this is an intestinal problem and not the respiratory flu you can get shots for-- the telling statistic for me was the no. of assists: 3. I think the story that stat reveals is this: either our guards cannot or do not feed the bigs well, or the bigs are not getting themselves free and in a position to receive a pass. The problem could be a combination of both, but if it is a matter of not getting free, then our picks need to improve along with our cuts through the lane and cuts (sharper?) off of picks. I did notice that the refs called a couple of moving picks on us early in the game; that is a weakness that can be fixed. I did not see the game, but those of you who did can answer this: were we setting just ball screens at the top of the key or were we setting baseline screens and back screens too? Or were we standing around on the perimeter watching our harassed point guard?

Well, we know of one gal who wanted to walk on, maybe they should reconsider and ask her to join up. We are down to 10 players.
