Poppens, Cyclones bully Missouri, 71-56

Here's my recap from Saturday afternoon's game. Is Chelsea Poppens fun to watch or what? The sophomore finished with 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. She wouldn't be denied on the offensive glass where she snared 10 of those boards.

There are also notes about Chassidy Cole, a quick start and a 45-25 rebounding advantage.

I should also mention that Saturday's attendance was 10,820. The Cyclones are averaging 9,006 fans per game this season.

The game was nowhere near what the final score says. The Cyclones had an 8-0 lead 90 seconds into the game, and they never looked back. The consistently held onto a 20-point lead through the first half, and well into the second half.

Poppens was a beast out there today. Not only did she score 12 and have an amazing amount of 19 rebounds, she also stood her ground, which resulted in at least 3 offensive charges against Missouri.

I'm impressed by Hallie's ability to play under control. As a freshman, she doesn't seem to be forcing anything and allowing the game to come to her.

Nicely done, IanSmith. Cole is a pleasant surprise - defense is more difficult to quantify but her recent assist - turnover ratio is fantastic.

I'd only feel bad if we didn't have three other players end up in double digits. It's good to know that Kelsey can have a less-than-Kelsey night and we'll still be okay.

Pop had a great game down low. Mizzou (#50)kept spinning to the left in the paint and trying little bank shots off the right side of the backboard. Defensively, we picked up that right away and Mizzou kept going back to it for some reason.
Mansfield has gotten to be a lot better as the season has gone on, not as tentative as she was earlier, really playing better.
