Lacey retiring from basketball
Capitals take a hit as Lacey steps out - Local News - Sport - Basketball - The Canberra Times
However, she said her passion had waned and basketball had become more like work than a sport.
''I wasn't as passionate as I thought I should be to be a professional athlete,'' Lacey said.
''I don't want to waste my time, my teammates or my coach's time if it's not my main priority.
''I thought I was ready to play, I was excited about it but then my feelings came through and I wasn't willing to give 100per cent and that's not fair to my teammates and I don't want to take that opportunity away from someone who really wants it.''

That's shocking ! All the best to her in everythings she does.
Just wonder what trigger(s) the decision. It was just couple of months ago that she decided not to re-sign with the storm hoping to make 2012 Olympic Team.

With the determination and work ethic that she showed at Iowa State I am sure that she will be successful in whatever endeavor she takes on. I wish her well and hope that she returns to Iowa State often.

She was a great player for us, but you have to respect her honesty and the decision that followed. All Cyclone fans will wish her well in her future endeavors.

Re: Lacey retiring from basketball
''I'm not saying [the passion] will never come back, but basketball has been my life for five years. I went into the professional arena and I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't like it was at college. I didn't want to look back and say 'what if I didn't pursue playing professionally?'. But I think it's just time to step back and focus on other parts of my life now.''
The college game and the pro game are a different animal and has different motivation.
Wish her the best, and she will always be one of our greats. Wouldn't mind seeing her back at ISU on the bench, but that is probably a pipe dream.

Re: Lacey retiring from basketball
Oh no! Sads. Yet, I wish her all the best, and I hope wherever she goes next (basketball-related or not, broadcasting, coaching, etc., the USA, Australia, etc.) she keeps rocking it. She certainly made my career in college and watching all of the women's basketball games a lot more interesting, so I hope life can provide her something of the same going forward.
