Re: Coach Easley leaving
Easley was largely responsible for our new defence which has been great. Sorry to see him go.
Hope new blood. Worried that it will be Billy. Would like it to be another woman who could recruit. Lyndsey would be great but Steyer is a good guards coach.

What about someone like Randi Peterson? She may be a Hawkeye, but she'd be a solid hire. Or maybe someone from Texas, given how much recruiting we've been doing down there recently. Agree with the first part huge loss. 2nd part HELL NO do hire a former SQUAWK!

I agree that fresh blood is needed, and nepotism, if that is a fair term here, is to be avoided. However, I don't think the best choice would be Coach G. from Texas; she did not do as well with Texas recruits while she was at Austin compared to how she did with them while at Duke, if the media story about her resignation is to be believed. She did not have Texas roots/connections, as previous stories on her career at Austin have noted, and that hurt her.

Re: Coach Easley leaving
There's less than zero chance of Coach G landing here. I just threw it out there as a funny possibility. She'll land a head job at a mid-major at worst.

Agree, but getting someone with good ties to Texas, someone who knows the high school scene well, would be significant, given that we seem to be recruiting that area now. Plus, Texas is the second most populous state after California. Or do we have someone like that already? I confess that off the top of my head I cannot answer that question.

Re: Coach Easley leaving
Regarding new blood: in 2003, Fennelly hired Coach Easley when Coach Pingeton left for Illinois State. He also hired Michele Roberts as DoBO. Since then, the only changes to the coaching staff were Roberts leaving in 2008 (replaced by Josh Carper, a recent ISU grad who had been working with the MBB program) and Billy Fennelly having the DoPD position created for him in 2010.
I'm not critical with any of those moves (or lack thereof). But now that there is an opportunity to bring in someone with an outside perspective, I think we need to take advantage.

Yes, and preferably, someone who can successfully recruit an area or areas where we have not had as much recruiting strength as we would like. Texas is one example, but California might be another.

Hiring someone with Texas experience isn't a must, but it'd be extremely helpful.

Re: Coach Easley leaving
Since Texas is now looking for a coach perhaps one of their assistants would be available. Just going through their staff, LaKale Malone sounds like a good fit...Big 12 experience with both Nebraska and Texas, good recruiter and also good at player development according to her bio.

And I think that holds in his treatment to his staff too.

When I watched Linn-Mar play a regional final in Tipton when Kiah Stokes was a junior, she was Texas' representative at the game. A night out with my buddies - HoopScoop Forums -
