I believe Griner's coach made a remark about this recently.
Don't get me wrong....I'm not saying it's okay to do this stupid crap to women because it's done to men, but if you put some of the stuff that's said about Griner against some of the stuff that's said about any men's D1 player who had an off night or did something stupid once upon a time...look at the threads about Barnes. The difference is that when it's about the male athletes, they're expected to be able to shut it out once they reach this level.
Quit bawling because someone's attacking 'a girl'. There are dooshnozzles all over the internet. Some of them (trolls) are dooshy just to get a reaction. Grow a thick skin and stop playing the 'it's sooo hurtful' card. It only hurts if you pay attention to a bunch of dumbarses like us (yes, I'm willing to refer to myself as a dumabarse) on the interwebbies. I don't think making "negative" comments is so much an issue as the comments referring to Griner as a man. Its time for everyone to let that go. Its been dealt with. Its beyond whether it is offensive to Griner or not...heck she doesn't read what we have to say...
I just go by what my folks always taught me...if you don't have anything good to say about someone don't say it. I think this def applies to the "I hate women's basketball" and "Griner is a man" comments. They just don't need to be said.

Hypocrisy, firstly read what you wrote about having thick skin.
Though its not about developing a thick skin, its knowing something is wrong. That it is a boundless, porny, drunken, fantasyland, where anything goes on the internet/social networks is a fraudulent notion. You think there are no consequences for what is posted?
In this case, I believe it is wrong to degrade players on physical appearance, be the player man or women. Griner is the one that I have seen hit the hardest and I tell you that I do not like it. But, empathy is not your thing.
The cultural norm developed in the buzzed, freestyled minds swirling on the web to who knows what end is your value base, not mine. I think there should be some standards.

Re: The Baylor Challenge Question!
I would have two points:
First - we had a similar discussion several years ago, and Mred (I think) dug up a quote from Geno, who had been asked a similar question - and his response was that the women's team would get destroyed. Yes - when the men's scout team is allowed to play full out - they crush the women.
Second - I was coaching girl's BB back when the switch to 5v5 was made. I talked to a coach from another school, whose team was a good 4A program at the time. He guessed that he had the 5th best team in the school, behind the boy's varsity, JV, 10th and 9th A teams. He thought if his girls played really well - they MIGHT be able to stay with the 9th B boys.
One of my former players came back during the summer after her DIII team won a national championship. She was a starting post for them, at about 6"-1". She played with our pick-up group (mostly 30's and 40's) for about six weeks and never scored a point. In fact, I'd guess that 70-80% of her shots were blocked.

Re: The Baylor Challenge Question!
When we were in 7th and 8th grade, once a week we got to scrimmage the varsity girls (who were undefeated before being upset in the state championship). It was considered more fair because we used the same sized ball and what not. I think the closest game I remember was when we only won by 15.
I know it's a little bit different situation but it goes to show just how different the guys' and girls' games are, even before we were fully developed and taller than them.

Re: The Baylor Challenge Question!
No womens team would finish within 40 points of a men's team if the men's team didn't want it to.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -
Re: The Baylor Challenge Question!
No, and I don't think it would even be close.
You have Griner at 6-8 and what? 140 lbs. maybe on the outside? I'm saying that much only because of how tall she is. A men's team could have a likely lineup of 2 6-8 and 1 6-9 to 7 foot at a minimum in the front court, with an average weight of probably 220-240. The rest of the women's team is likely to be under 6 foot 4.....or average size men's guards. How will the women's team get any rebounds, other than those that bounce out long?
Other than just the physical size aspects of it....I don't think the women would have the speed to keep up with a men's team.
If you had a first-team All-American team of women's players, they may have a shot, but even then..........

Re: The Baylor Challenge Question!
The top women's players might find a role on a lower level college team, but the games are so much different in speed and physicality, it's better to just enjoy each for what they are and not try to blend them.
