Check out the image of Pop in the link. That photo says much about Pop's legacy. The poor defender looks bewildered and threatened complete with cotton in her noise no doubt from an earlier run-in with Pop. Then there is Chelsea ready to push her muscular frame in all the while deciding how best to flay that defender. Good shot!

Ranked 22nd, and if the rankings hold true within the conference standings, we'd barely avoid playing in the first round of the Big 12. Shows how tough this conference is behind Baylor.

How is that every year Texas is ranked? When is the last time that they were any good?

I think it's because of the new coach Karen Aston. She was lead assistant under Jody Conradt, and it's who most Texas wbb fans wanted to see replace Conradt.
Re: Cyclones Ranked No. 22 By Lindy’s Magazine
Gail at Texas was like Chiz at ISU in FB. She had no idea what she was getting into and with Aston aka Texas wbb version of CPR she know the culture at Texas and knows what needs to be done to be successful.

Hope Dahlman notes we're ranked ahead of the Vols:)

Gail was able to recruit, but she didn't know what she was getting into with the Big 12.
However, I'd say Texas WBB is like Notre Dame football, always ranked to start the season, no matter how good they are.
Aston may be like CPR, but she and her staff are all new, that is a lot of new defense and a lot of new offense to teach kids and still be a top 25 team and play in the Big 12. Not to mention the chemistry issues, and I am sure the new recruits will be Aston's "kids" and getting the older kids on board at the same time(when Gail had motivation issues with them) might be a challenge.
Not saying Aston can't do it, but to expect it in her first year there is a bit steep. Think the ranking was generous myself.

Texas isn't the shocker in this poll, it is Okie State who lost their coach and top recruiting assistant in the tragic plane crash last season and finished 8-10 in conference play. Did they get some new immediate impact recruits?

I thought the same too, but as it was pointed out to me: they won the WNIT. Whoever wins that always gets into the pre-season polls.

Okie State returns pretty much their entire starting lineup from last year. Liz Donahoe was the Freshman of the Year and a solid player. They really came together at the end of the season. Their number one problem, they have a very weak non-conference schedule which as we've seen with other teams in the Big 12 come back to bite then once conference play starts. For all the people that complain about our non-conference schedule, Okie States is filled with a bunch of cupcakes.
