UCONN's Geno Suggests Lowering Baskets
"What makes fans not want to watch women's basketball is that some of the players can't shoot and they miss layups and that forces the game to slow down," Auriemma said, according to the Hartford Courant.
Auriemma plans to go to NCAA to suggest changes to draw more fans.
Cyclonenation, what say you? Geno Auriemma, UConn Huskies coach, thinks rims should be lowered in women's basketball - ESPN
Would be interesting to see what Coach Fennelly would say on this topic.

They are talking about lowering it 7 inches. I don't think that would be a big deal, although I'm not really sure how much more dunking there would be. Also, some college gyms probably do not have the right equipment (adjustable baskets) to do this.
Plus, what would you do in the high schools? I know there are a lot of those school gyms without adjustable baskets.
I guess I just don't see that there would be a huge jump in attendance just because now more girls could make layups or dunks, but I could be wrong.

Bring back 6 on 6? I remember when that was sweet, (I was really-really young) and the state of Iowa was the last to make the change to 5 on 5. To be honest, the scores were a ton higher with the 6 on 6 rules. Plus, it was a unique version of the game....which a lot of people thought was great for the girls. I mean think about it, softball is just that way....(why aren't the girls out there playing baseball? Answer, they have their own version of the game, which makes it great for the girls IMO.)

I could be wrong, but I think Oklahoma played 6 on 6 a couple of years after Iowa switched entirely to 5 on 5.

Re: UCONN's Geno Suggests Lowering Baskets
You are correct. Iowa switched in '93 and Oklahoma in '95

Re: UCONN's Geno Suggests Lowering Baskets
If Geno suggests it, count on it being good for Geno first, and overall WBB second.
