This feels bittersweet.. I hate letting people down.
Fennelly rates highly as a evaluator, motivator and developer of players. With luck and hard work that will get you far, however top talent makes the job easier.
I am reposting this article of a study on recruits selecting their school: How do basketball recruits make their decisions? - Swish Appeal
And contrary to Potter's pick, I recall one of the few highly rated state of Utah preps decomitting from Utah back in 2011 and came to the BIG XII via Oklahoma:
Brittney Martin: Brittney Martin 2012 High School Girls' Basketball News - ESPNHS
In the last few years we have been close on many top players which we have followed such as Greenfield, Vanloo, Robinson, Dahlman, Buckley and Potter. We lost all but Buckley.
Honestly I would have loved Robinson over Potter. But losing both I feel like the guy who got his face gnawed off under the overpass.
Utah? Bob and Doug are skeptical, eh!
That really really sucks! She sounds like she is going to be a good one. It is really puzzling why she would choose Utah over us.
Maybe she's Morman, maybe she has a relative there, maybe she just clicked with someone on the team or the staff, or maybe she just likes mountains. Who knows what goes through the mind of a teenager. It was tough enough trying to understand the ones I raised:)
Potter was not being recruited like Greenfield. Stanford vs. ISU is a much different decision. That was not about Ames or personal connections.
Our current class and new signees (a top 25 class!) show that top-notch players will come to Ames and ISU. We have gained more than we've lost in my opinion. Vanloo, potential sure, but unproven. Robinson, isn't she the one who went to Temple? Potential, sure, but unproven. Really, Dahlman and Buckley are the two proven players being seriously recruited (other than Greenfield) and we got 1 of 2.
I'm optimistic with the current and future classes, and the foundation is there to bring in a big to play with them. Go Cyclones!
Disappointing for sure, but wish her all the luck.
I guess Potter lied when she said that she wanted to win a National championship!
Given this announcement, what is our plan to land a good post player? Cous & Red - do you have any insight?
I have no special insight, but my best guess is that they'll look at jucos in the late signing period. Jensen should be a fine 4, but Baier is the only real 5 on the team next season. Hallie could probably handle it fine, but it doesn't really play to her strengths.
Greenfield had many heartfelt connections to Huxley/Ames, Iowa State, ISU coaches and fellow players. I know personally her parents would have been quite happy to see many of her games n Ames. I posted, "Greenfield had the same situation but her decision took her elsewhere." Her head told her to go to with Stanford's offer. It may not be exact but she was presented with similar choice and went with her head opposed to Potter going with her heart.
No biggie just wanted to present what I meant more conisely.
