Re: Spelling of Des Moines

Since they misspelled Des Moines within the Woman's bracketology, I moved this from the mens forum to the women's forum.

I think the people who run Wells Fargo Arena are praying to god that Iowa State gets into the tournament.

As well as the city of Des Moines and the Greater DSM Visitors Bureau. They have a lot of eggs in this basket.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

I think that's next year and then it's back in Ames in 2010.

Re: Spelling of Des Moines

Heh, they have to just be hoping that the committee wouldn't stick them with Iowa instead.

This raises the question about where the ISU WBB fans come from. A local fan won't need a room and will eat fewer meals. How far will a fan commute on a daily basis? Perhaps the DesMoines economy would be better off with a team from a nearby state. The NCAA, who is the decision maker here, gets revenue from ticket sales. I don't know who gets concessions.

I and my bride will travel and spend the night, probably with relatives.

Re: Spelling of Des Moines

If Iowa makes it into the tourney they are not automatically in the Des Moines Region...only if it happens randomly by seeding. Same goes for us next year when we make it in and the Tourney is in Iowa City, we will be lucky to be playing in Iowa.

On another note, this bracket was made on Feb 11th...before our close game with KSU and our upset this past weekend, so our stock has improved since this was made. And should be a higher seed...and not on the bubble as this shows.

Re: Spelling of Des Moines

The women's committee has always tried to place teams close to home. Look for the Sisters to be a 2-3-4 seed in Iowa City next year, or maybe with everyone healthy a No 1.

Good point Cyano. Also, on the right side, we're not listed as one of the "last for in" or listed in the "next four out". My take on that is that if we win the ones we're supposed to, we're dancin'. Upsetting Baylor would be huge and maybe get us up to a 9 or 10 seed.

Re: Spelling of Des Moines

Why we won't be a #1 seed next year - we're not Duke, North Carolina, Tennessee, UConn, Oklahoma, or Stanford. However, if we blow everyone away next season, I could see us in the #2-#4 range...
