Big win for the Sisters

Our ladies played gutsy, inspired ball tonight at Missouri on their senior night and pulled out a 58-54 victory. Amanda played quite a few minutes, but did not start. She didn't look near 100%. Anderson is really improving with her post moves as she seemed to be scoring at will especially in the 2nd half. Anna came in during the first two minutes of the game and hit a big 3, and Genesis had an awesome follow up bucket. We got to watch (and DVR) the game on FSMW. I think they'll finish 7th in the conference and could end up tied with Nebraska for 6th, but I don't know how the tiebreaker would shake out.

Great job tonight ladies, that was a huge win

Re: Big win for the Sisters

It was an absolute must win, and the twister sisters got it done. MU is not that good of a team, but they were hot from 3 in the first half and I was pretty nervous switching back and forth.

Big 12 is projected to get 7 or 8 bids, so the ladies need to take care of business at home against KU. The last road game against NU could be big, but maybe not critical if they get a win in KC.

Losing to the last place team tonight would have been a killer.

Re: Big win for the Sisters

Maybe the sisters should get more recognition because the guys team isnt doing so well. womens basketball doesnt get enough of it. on espn yesterday they showed the #1UCONN VS. #6 LSU 25 min in and only for like 30 seconds. If this was a matchup in mens it would be top story and they'd talk about it everyday for a week.

Re: Big win for the Sisters

I watched the last 5 minutes and the sisters played well. Clutch 25-foot 3 to give ISU the lead for good. I was nervous watching it, this was a must win. 8-8 in B12 is a lock but 7-9 and things get dicey.

I am so glad to hear this, and so sad to not be able to attend women's games.

Go Sisters! Go Cyclones!

Re: Big win for the Sisters

I think we're in at 7-9 in the conference (18-11 overall), before big12 tourny play. 8-8 most likely puts us in a tie for 6th with Nebraska and I'm not sure how tiebreakers work when, under that scenario, we'll have split with them. Certainly 8-8 means we're riding a 3 game win streak heading into tournament play...sound familiar

Re: Big win for the Sisters

The game was on FSMW for those in central Iowa and Mo. It was better entertainment than the men's game. Just a great team win, and if Bill Fennelly isn't COY in the big 12, there is no justice. Lacey had an off night shooting, Tired legs? She plays 35 minutes or more a game, and runs the offense. And she drains a 30 ft shot with under 2 minutes to break the tie. And Anderson looked just whipped at the line with 16 seconds to go and a 2 point lead and calmly sank both free throws. Anderson, Bolte, and Stuckey get better with more experience and more pressure. The grit and determination of these girls make one proud to be a Cyclone.

Re: Big win for the Sisters

Great win, and I have been pleasantly surprised at the TV coverage here in central IA.
I just ordered my tix for Des Moines! I have to go and support the ladies. You have to give them credit, just look at the minutes on the box score. They are working thier butt's off. (I have some family pride on the line as one of the starters is a cousin )
Anyway, I don't know if it has been discussed before, but do the Hawkeye women have a chance to play in Des Moines too? Or will they take them out of region so they don't have a repeat game (ISU vs UI reg. season). That should actually be a attractive game for $$$ reasons.

Re: Big win for the Sisters

Listened to the game on the radio, and have to say props to the Cyclones! This has been a tough year for them, yet they keep winning! Here's to the Des Moines regional and a chance at the sweet 16!!

Well, I can at least dream....

There is a chance. Des Moines will have 8 teams -- two groups of 4, each group likely advancing in a different region. So, theoretically, ISU could be in one pod and "them" in another.

The tournament goes back to 16 host sites (4 teams each) in '09.

Re: Big win for the Sisters

The committe tries to send teams as close to home as possible so it is likely the Hawks will be in Des Moines. Iowa has lots of upperclassmen including 5 seniors. Not to worry, however, Bill has Lisa's number. If we play them in round 2, they will have 200 fans, we will have 10,000.

Re: Big win for the Sisters

This talk of EIU in the dance with our beloved sisters makes me wonder how the seeding will shake out . Assuming we finish 7th in the conference (toughest conf. in Women's BBall)and win one in KC (I think a 7 seed bouds well for us in KC), I suspect we'll get a 6 thru 9 seed in the dance. Iowa is in a weak conf., but is atop their league's standings. Any thoughts on what their seed might be.
