ESPN Chat for WBB

right now it is Hays later it will be Creme

ESPN: Chat with Graham Hays - SportsNation

chris (IA): Iowa State's Bill Fenelly Big 12 coach of the year if they make they dance?

Graham Hays: (2:29 PM ET ) It will be tough to beat Patterson or Mulkey given where they are in the standings with teams that entered the year with mixed expectations, but that's no knock on Fennelly. I thought for sure they were done after losing Wieben to the injury, after having already lost Ross earlier. But he's done a tremendous job keeping them in it, and Kelsey Bolte, their top freshman, is a star in the making.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Hey, I sarcastically resent that. She came from my high school's conference!

If there's one team I don't want in Des Moines, it's Rutgers. And it's not because they'd be a #1 seed.

It's because the local media will spend all of their time fawning over C. Viv because of her success in the eastern part of the state over 15 years ago. ISU would get less coverage.

That '98 tournament still stings. Rutgers' players were much more physical than the old Marian Washington KU teams, and the amount of contact allowed to happen was appalling.

That would be interesting if Iowa State and Iowa met up in Des Moines. That would sell some tickets.

The committee wouldn't put ISU and Iowa in the same pod. They could both be in Des Moines, but not in the same region.

I couldn't agree more! Last thing I wanna hear about! Unless Don Imus comes with them! (sorry I don't know what to think about that comment!)

Re: ESPN Chat for WBB

hahahaha i think he is scared...

Nick (NJ): Is it any surprise that Rutgers has a #1 seed but put into the Iowa pod along with Iowa State? How many years is Rutgers going to have to play a lower seed on the lower seed's home court/state????

Charlie Creme: (4:11 PM ET ) Nick, you raise a great point and this was an agonizing process for me yesterday because of this very thing. The committee would like to avoid this scenario altogether and would certainly like to avoid it for teams to frequently, but here's the dilemma: Tennesse had to do this last year as a #1 (in Pittsburgh) and UNC had to do it (in Nashville) in 2006. While I know Rutgers had to play at East Lansing last season against Michigan State, the Scarlet Knights had to do it as a No. 4 seed. I'm guessing on what the committee might do here because this is a tough call, but because it didn't happen to Rutgers as a No. 1 or a No.2 last year, I think it might leave them vulernable to it as the last No.1 right now.

Re: ESPN Chat for WBB

Jay - Iowa: Is there any way that they would have an Iowa vs. Iowa State first round match up in Des Moines?

Charlie Creme: (4:25 PM ET ) no because they played eachother in the regular season and those matchups are avoided if at all possible.

Re: ESPN Chat for WBB

Just the fact that Fennelly has the women poised to make yet another NCAA Tourney appearance even with the devastating injuries to Weiben and Ross confirms to me that he's earning every single penny he's been given in his lifetime contract, and I'm glad that JP offered it to him last year. To me, as frustrating as this season has been due to the injuries (and the losses because of it), it makes some of those people that were thinking it was possibly time to go in another direction with the women's team after the loss to UGA (the game where none of the shooters could hit anything even if their lives depended on it) seem quite foolish. A lesser coach wouldn't even be in this situation this year.

My Roman Villas:
Friley-Godfrey (-66|126)
Helser-Woodrow (-61|122)
Roberts-Harriman (-74|133)
Welch-Ayres (-73|133)
