15 roster spots does make a big difference, but another big factor is the continuity of women's basketball.

In most (not all cases) a coach at a program like UConn or Tennessee can count on a player being around for all four (or five) years, instead of going early to the WNBA. That makes a big difference in developing talent and knowing what you roster will look like year in and year out.

I remember going to some event in Hilton (maybe it was a MBB game) and they allowed all in the arena to stay for a women's game for free. I sat right down close to the floor...there was virtually no one there. How times have changed.
