Did the women's team get their Thank You

From Des Moines. What an atmoshere that was. It was neat to see and hear all the fans there. Made Des Moines look good and made a good statement to the NCAA. No matter what they say if ISU isnt there, not many show up for the games. I heard it was the top attendence site for first round womens NCAA tourny games this year.

I'm not an expert on sports, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night

Well, the ISU fans should definitely be thanked - we sure made Wells Fargo Arena look good. Gee, that place has taken all of the concerts away from Hilton. and yet Iowa State plays their NCAA tournament games "at the competition."
Please, Hilton Coliseum from now on!

Agreed, ISU home games should no longer be played in Des Moines.

I think it would be awesome if ALL ISU/Iowa basketball games (mens and womens) would be played at Wells Fargo. That would ensure there is never a home court advantage, so there would be no dispute over which team was the best every year (ISU)! Plus, it would be good for the city of Des Moines!

Oh... people will come Mr. Pollard. People will most definitely come.

No, I don't live in Seattle anymore, I'm back in Des Moines but I don't feel like changing my username.

But, then you get those picky hawkeye fans who say, "well DM is right in ISU's backyard! It's only 30 mins away! All of us fans coming from the eastern side of the state have to drive twice as far!" and so on...

30 Minutes???? Easy. That's how long it takes me to get to work that's only 2 miles away.

Only kidding. Yes, all games should be played in Hilton when they can. But if this gets a mens regional, that would be sweet!!!!!! Creighton hosted this year.

I would never want to give up the Iowa games, men or women, to Wells Fargo Arena. I doubt that Jamie would either. Think of the revenue we would lose, and the business that the Ames restaurants, gas stations, etc. would lose. No thanks.

That was a combination of Ames not meeting the NCAA's hotel requirements for eight teams and Des Moines getting an "audition" for future NCAA bids/events.

In 2010, when only four WBB teams play in Ames, hotels won't be an issue.

Well, OK, except that Purdue hosted NCAA games this weekend at their own Mackey Arena in the huge metropolis of West Lafayette, Indiana - a town of a few thousand people more than Ames. ?????

West Lafayette is about the size of Ames. But when you include Lafayette it is a lot bigger "city" then Ames is. Not sure how big it is, but I would think it would be at least twice the size of Ames.

Thank you

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

ISU should just list Ames as "North Des Moines" for the purposes of bidding, and everything should be OK...
