Lange to Become Student Coach for ISU Women's Basketball
AMES , Iowa – Junior Brittany Lange will serve as a student coach for the Iowa State women’s basketball team over the next two seasons. She will make the transition from student-athlete to coach, as she assists the staff during practices and games.
Lange saw action in 10 games during the 2007-08 campaign, scoring three points and snagging four rebounds. The Sac City, Iowa, native, played her initial collegiate season at Creighton before transferring to Iowa State .
Lange has suffered nagging injuries throughout her career. She and ISU head coach Bill Fennelly decided that this is the best way for her to serve the team since she would like to pursue a career in coaching.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity to remain with the team and contribute in any way that I can,” Lange said. “I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to help the team physically because of my injuries, but I appreciate the chance that coach Fennelly has given me to be a part of the team in another way.”

Dedication to the team and loyalty to the program. I like it. -

Congrats to Brittany!
IIRC, Adam Carper has a similar role with the football team--helping out the coaches during practice. Athletes on scholarship can retain their scholarship after a career-ending injury if they take up a position in the athletic department. I believe this is an NCAA rule, and if the athlete chose not to work in the athletic dept they would no longer receive their scholarship.

This also applies to fifth year students who have exhausted their eligablility...

good for her! I love the fact that she wants to stick around and help the sisters on to another great season.

Congrats Brittany.

But I could be wrong.

Great for Brittany, if she wants to coach there isn't a better staff to learn from. In this case Brittany wasn't on scholarship, I believe she was a walk on.

Correct, she was a walk on, as she was at Creighton.
