What happened to the Girls?
I watched todays game and can't figure out why we had so much trouble hitting our shots. It's too bad we lost to a team at the bottom of the conference after playing so well against Oklahoma.

Re: What happened to the Girls?
It was an off night...something we can't really afford right now, but it happens. It was frustrating to see us missing lay-ups and 3's--our staple. The loss to Iowa and this one will probably hurt us the most, and maybe the point differential in the loss to Stanford. Historically under Bill Fennelly, our women's team has bounced back strongly from bad games and I expect no different this year. I think we'll be fine come Big 12 tourney and should still get a nice seed in the NCAA tourney.

Have they been practicing with the men?

McDermott and Chizik have been coaching the team. You think Chizik hates ISU, but he actually loves women's basketball and it doesn't violate his contract with Auburn. He's always looking for ways to make more $$...

I'd rather have this game now than in a couple weeks.

The women have had trouble scoring all year. Everyone had expected Lacey becoming a dominant player, but that hasn't happened. Lacey, Bolte and Ezell were a combined 7-27 against a bad KU team.

This is how hungry for a winner I am; and frustrated -- I was yelling at the t.v. screen over a women's basketball game. Boy do I have issues.

Re: What happened to the Girls?
The following is the ratio of 3 point field goal attempts to overall field goal attempts for Big 12 conference play. Iowa State..........0.385 Oklahoma State......0.315 Colorado............0.299 Kansas State........0.298 Nebraska............0.278 Missouri............0.263 Texas...............0.255 Texas Tech..........0.218 Oklahoma............0.200 Kansas..............0.193 Baylor..............0.175 Texas A&M...........0.162
Here is FG attempts per game for conference play... Oklahoma State......61.6 Oklahoma............60.8 Baylor..............59.2 Missouri............58.6 Texas A&M...........58.3 Texas Tech..........58.1 Texas...............57.6 Iowa State..........54.1 Nebraska............54.0 Colorado............51.9 Kansas State........50.9 Kansas..............49.6
ISU is presently shooting 3-pointers at .332 (5th), and overall at .357 (12th). What's surprising is how poor of a 2-point FG shooting team ISU is. I don't get to see the team play alot. Do they just miss open shots, or do they not get enough easy shots? Another thing is the number of attempts is somewhat low as well.
I know from reading the KU commentary that ISU apparently missed some layups, but the attempts/game and 2-pt percentage also suggest to me that ISU does not get many easy point attempts.

I wouldn't say KU is a bad team, I would say they are an underperforming team. Their only 2 non-conference losses were to UCLA and Marquette, and they slammed Iowa.
Frankly, the Jayhawks are a really good team when they are not making 25-30 turnovers a game which has plagued them all year.
Lacy has been plagued by illness pretty much all season until late, and she has had some good games lately.
What has hurt us all season, and will continue to hurt this team, is that we need a point guard who is an agressive dribble driver who is fast and athletic, who can also shoot the three. Bolte is good at self creating from the wing, but she doesn't dish well. I would like to see more plays run for her at the key. Have her do some high low with Wieben. Lacy and Ezell are a little better at the dishing, but not as fast to get around a good fast guard. Stuckey is fast but usually is a mess near the basket.
I think Williams is the answer for us in the future, but when she makes one little mistake, he pulls her. JMO, but he needs to let her get into a rythym.
We have always had a Medders, Frese, Wilson and this year we don't. That coupled with the team's overall "non-athleticism" is allowing teams to really guard us hard at the perimeter switching one through four. Many of those threes were off balance, late clock shots, and not open. Ezell had some though that she normally hits.

Whatever happened to Tocarra Ross? I thought she was supposed to make some kind of comeback this year - and yet it's as if she dropped off the face of the earth.

Well its pretty common knowledge that her rehab didn't go as well as Wieben"s - still wearing the brace is one clue, the other is the talk from the announcers and those close to the program that her side to side movement is poor.

Haven't seen all that many games this year, so I hadn't heard that. That's really disappointing, and could be part of the reason why we've struggled a little bit.

Re: What happened to the Girls?
This was a game on the schedule that has concerned me for a while. Not only did we miss a lot of 3's that we usually hit, but when we did get into the lane, we couldn't finish anything (except Wieben had a good game).

But we didn't have Medders, Frese, or Wilson last year either, yet really came on even with Weiben out. The optimism ran high based on last year. The confusion centers around what happened to our offense, with all players returning.
* Lacey averaged 14 a year ago; instead of increasing that 16 or above, she's down to 10.
* Bolte, as a frosh, averaged 10 ppg. - 13 in conference games. Her average is down, despite her increased experience.
* Weiben averaged almost 13 prior to injury last year - she's at 10 this season.
* Only Ezell has upped her game from last year. This doesn't make sense.
