Re: ISU - Giant Killer
This is going to be very interesting for ISU. In the Big 12, ISU finished up 8th in scoring and last in FG%, but first in scoring defense and 5th in FG% defense. It looks like it is going to come down to whether ISU can impose it's defense every game to compensate for the low offensive output, or somehow get hot offensively. I'd feel better about this if ISU could score more consistently.

BF made the decision to go to man-to-man over zone to help with recruiting (potential WNBA players don't want to be in a zone-only program). With that decision we have seen a transition to defense-first, meaning defense in practice gets priority in deciding playing time. That's part of the reason we only see the beauty of Anna and Shellie gracing the TV screen during timeouts.
BF has not backed off on shooting the three, in fact that shooting pct is higher than our overall FG %. It's just that a lot more time is spent on defense and making sure we hold the other team down. Part of that scheme is running down the clock on offense, which also sometimes results in not necessarily getting the best shot off as the clock runs down.

Not even close. We have rarely recruited potential WNBA players. Brittany Wilkins was certainly NOT one while being recruited. It had MUCH more to do with the ease of teaching M2M fundamentals as opposed to the subtleties of BF's zones.

He does put a little more emphasis on D this year, but mainly because he recognizes how difficult it is for this group to score consistently, which is also why the clock gets run down. It has NEVER been his intent to slow it down and use the clock. In the 11 years I have been attending, his teams have never looked great in half court sets - he ALWAYS wants to get down court and get a shot before the defense sets.

I wonder what Bill Fennelly would have to do at Iowa State to get himself in every women's bball promo ever on TV like Pat Summit. She's a great coach but it's gonna be nice beating Tenn in the 2nd round.

Re: ISU - Giant Killer
would the women's fans here consider anything less than the sweet 16 a success for this years team?
I haven't followed them at all that closely.
It would be neat to see ISU beat Tenn though!

Maybe win 1,000 games, 8 national championships, 14 conference titles, and 7 national coach-of-the-year awards?
