Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
Fennelly said in a news release. “They want to find another level of program where they can possibly obtain more playing time.
Ashley averaged 9.4 mintues/game on a squad that was senior heavy in the post positions. 9.4 is not bad for a freshman in that situation.
Good luck to her in the future , I think we'll miss her next year.

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
I understand Yackley, but not Arlen. So she did not play very much in a senior heavy class. It's not a senior heavy class anymore and unless she doesn't think she can play at this level, her timing is awful.

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
I wonder if Bill's coaching style played into it. I know there were a few times Ashley got upset with Bill simply because he was pushing her to try and make her better and she just broke.

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
Hate to see Asley leave. Talked to the Mr Arlen at several away game sand he was always very upbeat. I think it is very hard to juggle 15 womens scholarships and keep them happy. If you are not in the top 7 to 8 you will not play many minutes. Good luck to both of the girls in the future, Craig

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
I don't understand why Arlen is leaving to get more playing time. I think she would be playing at least 20 min/game this coming season as a sophomore and her playing time probably wouldn't decrease as she continues to develop. Maybe she thinks Anna Prins and other recruits coming in are going to leap-frog her and take all of her time?

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
No matter what the official word is, there's no way Arlen is leaving for more playing time.

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
Is Arlen a legitimate Big 12 post player? Maybe Arlen has come to the conclusion that she is not, doesn't want to change positions, and is looking for a school where she can play effectively as a post/power forward???

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
Arlen is a legit Big 12 PF who can also be a backup at center. I imagine she's transferring because her personality doesn't mesh with Fennelly's.

If a coach is popular (like Fennelly is), fans have an overwhelming tendency to blame and/or diss the player who leaves the program. Who really knows?
Maybe Arlen's "reason" for leaving the program is perfectly justified, and has nothing to do with playing time or her not being willing to challenge the incoming recruits.
I assume Jamie has/or will be doing an exit interview with her...

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
Best of luck to the ladies.
We'd never know why they want to transfer: they might feel (or realize) that they're not Big 12 materials, they get bored with basketball (with the committments, training, travels, etc), they want to play more, or they want to change the scenery because they don't like Ames or prefer to be somewhere else.
I wouldn't hold anything against them: they transferred after the end of the season instead of bolted the team in the middle of the season. Will it hurt ISU and BF ? Yes but who knows their replacements might be much better.
I remember Larry Eustachy said "we only want to focus on the players who want to be here". So let's focus and cheer on the ladies who want to stay as Cyclones

Re: Arlen/Yackley to Transfer
Maybe the silver lining is Mos and Anna will be out on the court more.
