Cyclones On Fire for 76-51 Win over Northern Iowa

AMES, Iowa – The Cyclones shot a season-best 59.2 percent from the field and Alison Lacey contributed her fourth double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Iowa State women’s basketball team to a 76-51 win over Northern Iowa on Sunday night at Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones stretched their winning streak to seven straight as they improved to 8-1 on the campaign. Northern Iowa dropped to 4-6 on the season. Iowa State ran its undefeated mark against the Panthers in Ames to 15-0 and improved to 30-8 all-time against UNI.

“Our guard play was really good, and that was the difference in the game,” ISU head coach Bill Fennelly said. “We shot the ball really well. If we would have hit a few more layups, Aus (Lacey) probably has another triple-double. We shot it well enough to overcome some sloppy play. We found a way to win the game.”

Despite some questionable calls, this game was never close, my daughter and I had a great time watching the Cyclones light it up in Hilton - especially when I was able to talk the camera guy into putting her on the big screen, she was mortified. Great win ladies.

The calls were so bad Fennelly was chewing on the lady ref with black hair, it looked like her hair should turn grey from the repeated blasting she got from Fennelly for her idiotic calls. Most people I heard in the crowd thought she was just plain incompetent, and she did nothing to disprove it.

Does anyone know what was said by the UNI coach after the game? When Bill and her were shaking hands it looked like she said something that did not sit well.

Who knows what they said to each other on the court, but in the paper today, the UNI coach said positive things about ISU, especially about Lacey, calling her a "literal all-American." I would not be surprised if both coaches had a negative word or two about the calls; the refs called some off-ball fouls on downlow screens that were questionable.
