Had it been the other way, ISU beating UConn, and us not getting any talk, I'd feel differently, but there is a point where the obvious truth is just too much to over come. We were lucky to share the court with UConn that day. I wasn't asking them to sugar coat what was happening on the court. However they certainly could talk about the season ISU had, how this team got this far without any upperclass post players, etc. The commentators made sure this one beat down defined the ISU season for every viewer.
In addition, they couldn't manage to say anything about the Cyclones before it was a beatdown, either. I realize they didn't have much time for that.
If they did their jobs preparing they should have had plenty of notes about the Cyclones that would be appropriate regardless of the score.

I guess to expect anyone nowadays, associated with the media, to do anything but tongue molest the flavor of the day is a little beyond reality. And Iowa in general isn't ever that flavor. I think that shows in how many times Iowa and Iowa State are confused for one another. Granted, ISU isn't doing a lot, but with Iowa's success in football since 2002, you think even the most generalized sports announcer would have the ability to remember the difference. At the end of the day, sports in entertainment, truly talented, dedicated, intelligent announcers of that entertainment seem to be farther and fewer between than ever.
I think most look at it as a 9-5 job and they'd rather be home, but they have to do something for work. Hell, I heard a local radio guy, who has his own sports talk radio show, complaining the other day about the Sunday Blues, because Sunday means he has to get up and go to work in the morning. (personally, I think it shows in the quality of his work and am amazed he has a show) none the less, this is what's happening. Not only do they not do their homework, do they not know the players playing, but I'm convinced, most of them think we tune in to listen to them babble. They really believe that if they weren't calling the game, we wouldn't watch it. Somehow, they are bigger than the game. And that's the problem. It's just a game, you are talking about a game over the airwaves, that's it.
I guess I'm still a little upset by the way the girls played. We really got shelled. And no, that should not take away from their season as a whole and what a great season it was. The announcers should have said something.

Re: Insult to Injury
I personally didn't care for the "I am a Husker" stuff, and nothing about ISU. In past years, they have usually showcased players from both teams, but this year, ESPN has put all of its focus on the #1 seeds players and teams in these spots and marketing, probably a cost issue. Too bad we didn't have Deb Antonelli(who gave props to the Cyclones during the Nebby game) or Brenda VanLegen(sorry Brenda). I don't know what conference or region those announcers cover, but that was the first game I think I have seen them, so they probably didn't know much about ISU. Though they did give Lacey some props a couple times talking about her Nancy Lieberman nomination and her All-American nomination.

Re: Insult to Injury
A trick that worked for me if you want to make yourself feel a little better about yesterday's game: imagine those commercials and mentally remove the "a." Then it suddenly becomes 30 seconds of Maya Moore telling the country that "I am Huskie." -
Re: Insult to Injury
The "I'm a Husky" thing is something they did with all the #1 seeds. Stanford, Nebraska, and Tennessee all did them. It wasn't an anti-ISU thing, it was a promo for the top teams in the tourney.
