Sounds oddly similar to the GSB debate had here a few months ago.

I understand that fact. I have also heard that the Board of Regents wants all three state schools to separate the Athletic departments from any state funds. If this is true and the WBB program is bleeding money then how can they add positions? The taxpayers are still subsidizing the sports at ISU. I am not upset with the move or who got hired. I just think the timing is odd and if the WBB program was in the black it wouldn't look so strange.

How many WBB programs do you think are not "bleeding money?" Very few, if any, D-1 WBB programs make money; none make money if you also include the costs of player scholarships.
ISU is, I think, in the best position of the 3 state schools in terms of percentage of athletic dept funds paid by taxpayer money (under 5%).
Re: WBB job opening (Director of Player Development)
Other than Baylor, which uses some odd accounting, ISU is #2 in the Big 12 in least money lost on WBB behind Texas Tech (08-09 numbers). ISU is in the lower half of the conference in WBB expenses.
Growing deficits in women's programs straining budgets
Re: WBB job opening (Director of Player Development)
Can someone update me on Hilton and concessions management? With our attendance, I would expect there to be well in excess of a million dollars in concession sales - food and drink. There ought to be additional revenues in licensed products, television, radio, tournament share and tickets. All of that ought to be in excess of the 1.5 million in revenues we're reporting. I assume the coaching staff "owns" all revenues from camps and some endorsements.
There are also indirect revenues attributed to the program. There are general licensed products, Cyclone Club dues and general university/foundation/alumni association dues and donations which are induced by the team. The university and Ames community also profit. We travel to Ames several times a year, book a room, buy food and drink, gas, and shop because of WBB.

The U of Iowa is in a MUCH better financial position than is ISU.
Re: WBB job opening (Director of Player Development)
This was not suppose to turn into a bunch of people trying to decide how much money each sport has or does not have.
The real question is: When will this job be filled, and by whom? This job has been posted FOREVER. Sure do not need to worry about BF hiring too fast on this one....

They don't state what year the figures are so I am guessing last year (2008-2009).
