ISU vs. Old Dominion

The meet was great toinght. I didn't know what to think of our team, but after tonight I am feeling better.

141 Drouin-very aggressive and confident. Score was closer than the match. He dominated.
149 Carr Jr.-unorthodox, got the W. He should be a qualifier.
157 Weatherman- Wow. Didn't have a great opponent. But still, wrestled lights out. Great takedowns, very aggressive.
165 Sorenson- Owned the match, much better than last year.
174 Reader- Best wrestler on the team, could be in the finals.
184 Shafer- He struggled tonight. He has the potential to do good things for the program.
197 Hawes- I don't know why Ward didn't wrestle here. Hawes got tired and has a lot to improve on to be a threat.
HWT Simonson- Great effort. Won in Double OT. He is undersized and will have trouble in the conference.
125 Hunter- Wrestled Nicholson from DM. It wasn't close.
133 Jones- He seems overwhelmed. I think he will be very good in the future.

Our middle weights are great. 141-174 should all qualify. That's not enough to compete for a national title but it is a nice representation. If we qualify 7, we need to see it as a good season. Having Long in the lineup would do great things.

Interesting that Ward didn't wrestle. He is one of the better guys in the room. And someone who would know told me that Long might be back still this year. He's practicing at least.

I haven't been able to find anything on the kid from Waterloo, Gadsen. Is he on the team and just redshirting for sure or is something going on?

ISU always redshirts freshmen in wrestling. Even Cael red-shirted (good thing too, he had one loss that year, but it doesn't count since he was wrestling unattached)

I have looked at a few box scores and haven't even seen him wrestling unattached, that's why I asked. Thanks for the follow-up.

184, 125, 133 were our worst bouts.....makes me nervous about the upcoming schedule.

Hunter will improve at 125 as the year progresses. He is too talented and will gradually adjust. 133 and 184 are give up weights this year. Next year I see Hunter moving up to 133 and Fitch taking over the 125 weight class. 184 will be all Gadsen's next year and I am glad of that.
