Wrestling Scholarships

I know that each wrestling program has 9.9 total scholarships to dole out. My question is whether the way in which scholarships are allocated amongst the members of each team is public information. I'm assuming not, since I've never seen anything about this, but am still curious as to who is getting what in terms of scholarship money for ISU and other teams. Especially with respect to younger wrestlers, I think it would help show who the coaches think the up and coming "high impact" guys might be.

I would practically guarantee Finch got as close to a full ride as any. Then money to Moreno, Gadsen, and Cozart then maybe Goettl. Not sure how much money they had to give for Jones, England, Voelker; shouldn't have been much (I hope not much). I also think alot of these guys get their scholarship reviewed annually. Riley was a walk on. Other probably on scholarship now and orginally walkon are Sorenson, Simonson and Shafer I heard is a walkon.

Wow, the NCAA doesn't even allow enough scholies to field a full team. What a joke.

Title IX and illogical/radical limit changes on scholarships allowed for men's sports.

In wrestling, I don't think it's normal for any wrestler to get a full ride. I think I heard somewhere that the most common "high" was around a .8 or something like that.

Thank you Title 9. If you want some good reading search Jay Robinson, Minnesota's wrestling coach and his thoughts on Title 9 and how it has negativly impacted wrestling and his program. The U of M's Women's hockey team got an arena built because the men had one. Heven for bid they share.

I think Title IX is okay, but should be improved. I think it should be based off of the % of students at that school that would play sports if given the opportunity. They could base it off of polling done at the school. Other than that, though, I don't have any major beefs about it.

I have been told that the hawks give 1/4 or 1/2 scholarships. Or just ask guys to walk on. They get a lot of those too.

You don't know much about it then. Title IX is a joke. There will never be an equalizer for football on the women's side. That's a huge disparity right there. 105 schollies right there in DI. Were they to throw football out the door, I wouldn't have as much of a problem. Football is one of the only revenue generating sports for most schools. Men's basketball is the other. Nearly all women's sports are low revenue, or they negatively imapct the bottom line of an athletic budget. What you are forgetting is the number of participants who are negatively affected by this. There are far more participants in boys high school sports in Iowa that have nowhere to go. You have to look at participation rate, also. Does a high school kid wrestling or playing baseball have the same chances to get a college scholarship as a female soccer player? Heaven forbid, you're a male gymnast (for which we have a national title), there are no programs to go to. Men are being discriminated against big-time in Title IX.
