Missouri Preview and Prediction
Jackson and the team heads down to Missouri on Sunday, so I thought I'd take a look at the match-ups. Intermat has us ranked 14th (Missouri 18th), and Amateur Wrestling News ranks us 15th (Missouri 11th).
125 Brandon Jones (4-16) NR/NR vs. Alan Waters (35-4) 9/8
133 Ben Cash (4-15) NR/NR vs. Nathan McCormick So. (18-12) NR/NR
141 Chris Drouin (12-6) 15/NR vs. Todd Schavrien (22-4) 12/11
149 Max Mayfield (13-12) NR/NR vs. Kyle Bradley (12-13) NR/NR
157 Trent Weatherman (13-13) NR/NR vs. Nick Gregoris (15-11) NR/16
165 Andrew Sorenson (15-5) 10/13 vs. Zach Toal (19-9) 9/9
174 Jon Reader (30-0) 1/1 vs. Dorian Henderson (20-7) NR/18
184 Cole Shafer (8-15) NR/NR vs. Mike Larson (20-11) 16/17
197 Jerome Ward (14-5) 16/18 vs. Brent Haynes (25-7) 14/13
HWT Kyle Simonson (23-7) NR/NR vs. Dom Bradley (22-3) 3/6
Only two of the guys met at Midlands, with Drouin beating Schavrien 3-2 and Shafer losing 8-4 to Larson. This being Drouin's first match back its tough to guess how it'll go.
Here's my predictions:
125: Waters by pin. 0-6
133: McCormick by major. 0-10
141: Drouin by decision. 3-10
149: Mayfield by decision. 6-10
157: Gregoris by decision. 6-13
165: Sorenson by decision. 9-13
174: Reader by tech fall. 14-13
184: Larson by decision. 14-16
197: Ward by decision. 17-16
HWT: Bradley by major. 17-20
141, 149, 147, 165, and 197 could all go either way, so this could end up with a Cyclone win, but it could also end up a blowout. Having Drouin back is huge, but he is hardly getting a chance to ease into things.
Some things I'd really like to see:
-Drouin coming out strong in his return to the mat
-Weatherman pulling another pin out of his ***
-Ward actually wrestling
If those three things happen, there is no reason that we can't win this one.
Re: Missouri Preview and Prediction
Looking back at it, I'd say the best reasonable outcome is 24-13, if everything goes our way. And the worst is 4-32. It's such a huge range because half the matches are toss-ups.

Big match for Ward. I'm hoping for an upset at 184 (Shafer puts together a 2nd and 3rd period like his 1st) also 157 Weatherman.
We need 4 of 5 from 141 to 174 and/or 197 plus bonus points

I don't think Kyle will get majored at Hwt

I'd like to hope so, but while Simonson isn't a hole in the lineup like Cash or Jones, he isn't on the level of a guy who has a shot at making the finals in March. It's heavyweights though, so you're probably right.

I think Shafer can pull it off, though I won't be counting on it. He's has been coming together the second half of the season, though not at the level I'd like, but I think that (barring getting knocked out of the line-up) he'll AA for us by senior year.
Re: Missouri Preview and Prediction
SOrry to bump my own thread, but does anyone know if Carr is done for the season? Or is he just out until he makes weight consistently?

Heard Simonson is not wrestling today.
Don't know if Carr will ever make weight. He was on such a roller coaster and had to cut 10 or so lbs. every time. Two day tourneys were real hard.
Glad to see Druin back. Hope he's 100%.
Wish people wouldn't be so hard on Ward. He is not fully recovered from his last knee surgery and imo doing a good job.
Our freshman are going hard all the time. ISU has had a REAL tough schedule this year. Did you see the match with Jones and Robles from AZ? Jones never quit. Robles arms and upper body are that of a 165 pounder. They all are improving every match. We as fans need to give this young team a chance before casting them out.
I know it's hard when your used to being top dog, but geez, these guys are young!
With that said, GO IOWA STATE!
Re: Missouri Preview and Prediction
In the live updates it has Carr as wrestling. Does anyone know if that is right?
Missouri Preview and Prediction
Slifka is 3rd string, wonder why it isn't Gibson if Simonson is out.

Shafer came out strong, got the first take down, and is inching up on these ranked wrestlers. Think he will turn the corner soon! Lost 4-3.
Missouri Preview and Prediction
Ward picks up a solid win 8-3. And only got warned for stalling once!
Missouri Preview and Prediction
Slifka loses 0-4. Wonder what's up with Simonson and Gibson.

Pains me to say, we need to bench Carr and let Mayfield wrestle. I like to have the Seniors get every chance to start, but Carr isn't going to work.

Fantastic win by Jerome, I don't think he wants to cut to 184 next year.
