For the wrestling experts...
What is the state of the ISU Wrestling program? As a casual observer it's hard for me to remember the last time and ISU team performed this poorly. I enjoy wrestling and watch when I can, but I simply don't know enough to form my opinion.
What do you guys think?

Re: For the wrestling experts...
This topic was a conversation a month or so ago, but just to fill you in, wrestling is down this year because of recruits leaving and following Cael. Wrestling isn't a sport that can recover quickly because of there only being 10 wrestlers in a line up. What has also been hurting us is giving up 6 points per meet since we have to forfeit Chris' weight. If Drouin was in the line up, our meet score has a 9,10 or more point swing in our favor. Since its so late in the year, it wouldn't make sense to burn redshirts on our big recruits that we have coming into the lineup next year. We need to be patient with the bad situation we were put in and let KJ and staff do their work.

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: For the wrestling experts...
Next year we'll be a much better dual team but I'm not sure if we'll be a better tournament team. Reader and Drouin are likely to score a big chunk of our points this year.
But we won't have the holes in our line-up next year like we do right now.
Moreno/Spangler/Sorenson from 157-174 will give us some of the best middleweight groups in the nation though. Hopefully Weatherman will be more competitive with a drop to 149 (since I assume he'll want to get out of Moreno's way, and Jackson has said that Moreno is go 157)

Ward and Sorenson will likely be high AA's (and who knows if Finch, Spangler, or Moreno will join them there), but I don't know that we'll be any better of a tournament team. That'll take a few more years as Jackson develops the guys that are redshirting this year and brings in recruits.

Re: For the wrestling experts...
This has been the poorest season an ISU wrestling team has had in recent memory. Things can only get better.

Next year will be a better dual team, but still lacking some depth. 133 will still be Jones or Cash or true frosh, 141 will be Goettl or true frosh, I don't think Mayfield can get down there.
The worst time to lose a coach is when there's a big senior class and small recruiting class, just doesn't transition well. We need big time recruits, like Finch. Want to push hard for Meeks (think he goes to Nebraska) or Clark. We need depth and Quality; hard to do in a short time span.

Re: For the wrestling experts...
NCAA only allows 9.9 scholarships for 10 wrestling weights, so it's hard to have "replacements" in the wings.
We kicked our star 125lb off the team and 141 was injured. That's like a 12 point swing every week
