Big 12 Preview/Predictions

In the media conference today Jackson mentioned that they had a few injuries. Simonson we know, wonder who else is hurting? Sorenson did sit out the Nebraska dual, so maybe it's him?

He also said he believes we'll be a 4 team wrestling conference. Though he did dodge a bit and tell them to ask Pollard.

As much as that would suck, if there is one weight where we can afford to have a starter out and still be highly competitive, it is 165.

Exactly, I think Spangler can step in and do very well at Big 12's/NCAA....Based off of previous results i'd say Chris could place as high as 2nd at big 12's while Sorenson because of his loss to Caldwell like 7-1 i'd have to say 3rd...But who knows Sorenson hasn't wrestled Burroughs, although i don't think there is a chance in hell Andrew could beat him i'd be interested in what the score would be....

I'd say Sorenson wrestles no matter what. If gets 4th, he would still be seeded in top 12. Like KJ said, if he get 2nd he could be seeded 2nd to 4th.

One thing to consider is that with five qualifiers at 165, Sorenson could injury default through the tourny and still qualify if it is something that they expect to get better within 2 weeks.

Smith says there is about a 20% chance that Gelogaev wrestles, so it'll probably be Rosholt. That's a much more winnable match for Simonson, I think.

I read that also. Might be to throw us off and far as preparing for either one. I also think Simonson is 50/50. He is expecting to go, but I don't think its a guarantee. Might be Silfka.

Rumor on the other board, is Sorenson is out, Spangler will wrestle 165 (Big 12 loses 1 auto qualifier at 165). Mayfield is in and Carr is not wrestling (expected). Kyle Simonson may or may not wrestle (if not Big 12 loses an auto qualifer at Hwt)

That would be 4 instead of 5 at 165 and 3 instead of 4 at Hwt as far as auto qualifiers.

If that's true it sucks...I think Spangler will do well, but just sucks for Sorenson to wrestle all year and not be able to go when it counts... And if Simonson can't go that sucks to cause i had thought all along that he would get a wild card if he didn't auto qualify...Mayfield or CArr is a wash in my opinion, i personally would like to see Carr because he has the "ability" to do well, but we've all seen he has a ability to be sucking weight too!

It is my understanding that if the guy that earns the automatic bid does not wrestle, the bid is lost an goes to the at large pool. In this case Sorenson and Simonson both earned automatic bids, so if they don't wrestle the bid is lost.

I thought the qualifiers were based on performance throughout the season and given to the tournament, not the individuals. Does the tournament actually lose the auto qualifer spots if someone doesn't wrestle?

Regretably I won't be there, I'd been planning on it, but some stuff came up that will be keeping me on the other side of the state tommorow.

Question for you guys, if you don't wrestle the conference tourney can you still get a wild card??? For example lets say you are ranked #1 in the nation and you get a skin disease (ringworm, etc...) and don't pass the skin check and can't wrestle the conf meet, the lets say the skin disease is cleared up can you get a wild card??? Or maybe if you don't make weight for the conf meet can you still get a wild card for the NCAA meet???
I would assume it would have something to do w/ your school entering a wrestler at that weight at the conf meet.....
