Looking at next year's team and comparing it
to Iowa, how will we stack up. I've been reading about this transfer they got this morning so I thought I'd see what everyone thought:
125....Finch vs. McDonough/Ramos
133....Jones/Hunter vs. McDonough/Ramos
141....Goetl vs. Marion
149....Cozart vs. Carew/Ballweg
157....Weatherman vs. Kelly/Nick M.
165....Spanlger vs. St. John
174....England vs. Lofthouse/Evans
184....Gadsen/Ward vs. Grambrall
197....Gadsen/Ward vs. Byers
HWT...Gibson/Siminson vs. Rasing/Telford
That's a lot of new blood for ISU, but Iowa has a lot of new blood this year and are performing. How do you think it will go?

Re: Looking at next year's team and comparing it
Iowa State should be a better dual team but not sure if we get it done next year or not. We will have some good raw talent coming to the lineup, but the only thing our lineup will not have is experience at the college level. But I can almost bet you this team will have a lot of fire and aggressiveness. After the UNI meet, we were down on the floor talking and KJ came up to us and shook our hands and told us thanks for coming. Also said that next years meet won't be near that close, so it sounds like Jackson is pretty high on the class coming in next year.

I don't know about all the moves, but I think it's safe to say Sorenson will be in there. I wouldn't mind seeing Weatherman going down to '49, but I don't think he realistically can do it. What are your thoughts on the matchup?

Re: Looking at next year's team and comparing it
Iowa is miles ahead of us right now. This was supposed to be a 'rebuilding' year for them with a lot of young new guys in the lineup...yet there they are still on top.
Our program is not good right now. KJ has more to worry about than trying to beat a much better Iowa program

Re: Looking at next year's team and comparing it
Iowa has a solid dual team this year, but they have no chance of taking nationals. They have a bunch of guys ranked 8-20 which is nice for duals, but isn't what you need for the big show. Of course I wouldn't expect most of you to understand that because you just look at the scores in the paper.

Mcdonough #1, Ramos #7, Marion #2, St John #7, Lofthouse #6. #3 ranked tournament team, but I wouldn't expect you to know this because you haven't looked at the rankings this month.

Alot of unknowns, McD and Marion will be heavy favorites where ever they end up and after that who knows.

The hawks could be all over the Top 10. I could see them 2nd or 10th. McD and Marion are high probablities for a high AA. After that could be more AA or Round of 12's, its nationals. Matchups and 1 bad loss can change things big time.

Cael is bringing a national championship to PSU this season. Low all-americans don't win national championships. Sorry hawks.

Re: Looking at next year's team and comparing it
This year's team race at nationals is going to be fun to watch. It's pretty wide open and there's no real favorite.
Cornell and Penn State have serious firepower while teams like Okie State and Iowa are balanced. Wisconsin could be in it and don't sleep on Boise State. I'm hoping Iowa State gets back in the conversation sooner rather than later

Re: Looking at next year's team and comparing it
This is my realistic view on what the lineup will look like next year.
The 1st name will be who I think the starter will be
125 -Finch, Jones - Hope it's Finch
133 -Cash, Jones - Hope it's a transfer
141 -Goettl, Schlosser - Not sure what to hope for, maybe a transfer
149 -Mayfield, Cozart - Hope its Weatherman
157 -Weatherman, Moreno - Hope its Moreno
165 -Sorenson, Moreno - Hope its Sorenson
174 -Spangler, England - Hope its Spangler
184 -Shafer, Riley - Hope its Ward
197 -Gadsen, Ward, Voelker - Hope its Gadsen
Hwt -Simonson, Gibson,Tennant - Hope its Simonson (Also hope Gibson got his grades up)
149 to 174 looks like we have lots to work with, and only Sorenson being a Senior next year at those weights.

Re: Looking at next year's team and comparing it
Iowa will win it again.
They may not crown a host of Nat'l champs, but they'll tally the points in the wrestlebacks like they always do.
