    I maintain that Iowa will win Nationals. Sticking to it until it doesn't happen.

    David Taylor is a freakin animal. I haven't seen a freshman that impressive since Cael. We'll see how he deals with the pressure at nationals and wearing a bullseye...but he's been nothing short of stellar so far.

    The key to Penn State beating Iowa was Quentin Wright. If he's back to full strength and wrestling with confidence, that just adds another horse in Cael's lineup.

    Iowa's interesting because they're not Iowa teams of the past that had 3 or 4 guys that you knew were going to score a lot of points. McDonough looks to be the only lock to place in the top 4 but they have a ton of guys who could place between 5th and 8th. If Iowa somehow pulls it off it will be because of their balance

    If Iowa pulls it off this year, that will be sobering news for the rest of college wrestling. Look at the scoring they lost off last year's team.
    If Brands can win a team title in this, a rebuilding year (to put it mildly), I give up.

    I have heard these accusations about Jamie from some very creditable people and if indeed true this is a very sad. When your head coach and a Cyclone wrestling legend comes into your AD's office and asks for a little more support and is denied and told he didn't earn it cause he didn't win a national title! I'm just saying.

    $ bought Cael's allegiance.

    More money, better facilities, a fresh start, a different AD to work with

    There are plenty of possible reasons Cael left

    Re: PSU wins big 10 title

    Why is everyone blaming this on Pollard? He was given a mandate by the state to get off state funding for the athletic department. Even with this mandate, and the fact that wrestling is not a revenue generating sport(not even at ISU fans) he was offering Cael the same amount of money as PSU(salary wise). Here is why he left

    1. Facilities- PSU was going to offer him the same salary, but a tremendous facility to work with as well. ISU cannot afford to upgrade the wrestling facility right now. Maybe if some of this new look Big 12 money comes through that will happen. That or the donors need to step up.
    2. Recruiting- At ISU, Cael was not even coaching the most prominent team in the state. That honor belonged to his neighbor to the east. Not even being the top dog in your backyard can be tough, and having to traverse the country for the talent needed to win is tough. Look at the great wrestlers coming out of Pennsylvania. Those kids are locked up right away, and he can cherry pick the rest of the country. His job is far easier there because of it.

    So, let me get this straight; JP submarined Cael's tenure at ISU after Cael asked for help?

    ISU boasts five living Olympic Gold medalists, correct? Some national titles, also correct? Located in the epicenter of high school wrestling, Iowa.

    Here's my question; If ISU has the wrestling cache that so many Cyclone fans say we do how would Jamie Pollard, a guy who's not from Iowa and in his first head job (and not for very long at that) possibly be able to do this at ISU? I have a hard time believing that an AD could act this way if the sport were football at UT or basketball at UNC.

    It's one of two things;

    1. Cael left for the money.

    2. ISU alums and friends of the program couldn't intercede and help Cael.

    If # 2 is true ISU wrestling is in big trouble.

    Iowa isn't the mecca of HS wrestling anymore....fyi

    Let's not forget that in the B10 everyone wrestles. It is the dominant conference of wrestling for the forseeable future. No one can argue that.

    Let me guess, it's Pennsylvania.

    Knowing that you're correct about the B10, how could anyone blame Cael's defection on JP?

    Cael left for facilities and to make his own legacy. It wasn't about salary, it was about over-all money for the program.

    Cael will be able to out-recruit anyone for the next 5-8 years based solely on his name. But in the long run we have yet to see if he is a good coach. He won't be the next Gable though, that much I can say for sure.
