Like I posted in the Big 12 thread, having Sorenson go down to injury killed our very legit chances of placing in the top 10 in Philly.
No idea, but he isn't eligible for a wild card anyways. I have to think that if there was a decent chance of it being healed in time for nationals they would have sent him out there and had him default out to 5th place (since he had auto-qualified).
Given how bad Spangler's ankle was on Saturday, I'm not sure if he'd be able to compete in Philly even if he somehow got a wild card tommorow. Which is also too bad, because he would have had a shot at getting to the round of 12 at least, though obviously not as high a chance of AAing as Sorenson.
But going from having 3 guys you expect to score a lot of points (Reader, Sorenson, Ward), to only 2, is a huge hit to our likely team total.
Reader could also go 0-2 and not score us a single point, but if you go by season performance so far and rankings, Ward is anywhere from a mid-AA to falling just short of the round of 12.
Either he or Drioun is the 3rd best starter on the team (since I'd really think Spangler is the 3rd best guy in the room) , there is no question about that. He would have been our 3rd best point scorer, but with 165 out and Drioun having post concussion struggles he'll likely be our second biggest.
149 should be a great class at NCAA's, with Caldwell (I'd sort of forgotten about him), Dake, Molinaro, and Marion. 157 will also be interesting to see if Taylor can run the table.
A Caldwell-Dake final at 149 would be a real treat as would Burroughs-Howe at 165.
I think 133 is going to be a wild weight class and I'm looking forward to seeing how the top three of Reader, Ruth and Lewnes shakes out at 174
Should be a great nationals with a wide open team race

I still think Reader has a great shot to run the table, no matter who he ends up with. He has tons of experience, highly motivated in his senior season, much improved, and he seems to be healthy this year. He's simply an animal in my opinion. Looking forward to following him through the tournament!
Yeah but Ruth also lost to Mike Letts of Maryland, in which Letts is ranked right now 10th....But i forsee Ruth being the #2 seed and Lewnes being the #3 seed which is great because that means both will be on the opposite side of Jon if he gets the #1 seed...I see the top 12 seeding going like this...
#1 Jon Reader
#2 Ed Ruth
#3 Mack Lewnes
#4 Colby Covington (I don't like him being on Jon's side, he is pretty good)
#5 Chris Heinrich
#6 Nick Amuchastegui
#7 Ben Bennett
#8 Nick Hefflin
#9 Ethen Lofthouse
#10 Mike Letts
#11 Mike Benefiel
#12 Luke Manuel
So based off of those, Reader would meet Ethen Lofthouse or Hefflin in the quarters, then either Covington or Heinrich in the semis...then Ruth or Lewnes in the finals....Now the best would be if Heinrich and Nick Am switched spots as i'd rather have Heinrich on the other side, cause that would be a loaded side of the bracket w/ Lewnes, Heinrich and Ruth....
