    141 - Goettl - not sure he's ready for D1 yet.
    Not sure on Mayfield
149 - Mayfield and Weatherman to battle it out.
157 - Moreno - has the potential to be very good if he can manage the weight cut
If not Weatherman if he isn't cutting to 149
165 - Sorenson - if healthy a National title contender
174 - Spangler - if healthy a National title contender
184 - Ward - Not sure on his ability to make the cut back down. (That's the plan)
Shafer will be a good backup and push whoever's there
197 - Gadsen - if healthy has potential to AA
    backup Ward, Voelker, Hawes
Hwt - Simonson being pushed by Gibson

The only true freshman I see possible wrestling is Schlosser at 133 or 141

Good thoughts, but....Spangler can't stay healthy. Hope Sorenson is healthy but who knows. As has been said in other posts, Ward cant get to 184 and be effective. Gadsen was also injured this season - can he stay healthy? Is Simonson coming back??? He also has a few injuries. I'd love to see all these guys wrestling, just not sure yet.

Shafer has improved a bunch and qualified for the NCAA and you have him as a back up? Think he will continue to improve and imo do very well next year.

Weatherman can't go down to 149 or would have this year. Mayfield doing great imo.

Still way too early to tell, but I guess it's fun to make wish lists.

Unless both Gadsen and Ward can't make 184, I don't see Shafer starting. If both those guys are at 197, then Shafer will be in the line-up and do alright for us. We'll see in a few months though.

    Re: Next Year's Line-up

These are cuts that are part speculation and parts are KJ's plan. He has mentioned Moreno going to 157, so I assume Weatherman goes to 149. I think the expectation were a lot higher for Trent at 157, if we knew what we know now, I think trent might have tried 149. I don't think Carr could be effective at 157 tho. It has been stated that Gadsen is going to 197, so again assume that Ward goes back to 184. I am worried about the health of Gadsen also, so Ward at 197 as the starter or backup doesn't totally bother me. Shafer will be better next year at 184. Health is going to be a BIG PARTof our success! The Big 12 is young, Iowa will be very good. Our schedule will make it tough to make big improvement in our record, but I think we will be a much more balanced tourney team.

Well, it's tough to apologize for Sorenson's elbow and Spangler's ankle...

    Re: Next Year's Line-up

    My .02...

    125 - Ryak Finch (i think he'll AA 4x)
133 - Cash/Schlosser/Goettl/Hunter/Pena (If Goettl can get down he'll be decent, if not a weak weight for us, if Schlosser makes it to ISU I say throw him in a get some time out of him, Pena is a true fresh and probably will RS but he is pretty talented, maybe Clark will transfer back :) )
141 - Goettl/Mayfield (thoughts are Mayfield may be able to get down, he wrestled decently last year for a walk-on)
149 - Cozart/Weatherman (rumor has it Weatherman may drop, he was too small this year for 157 Cozart was a 4xer for Brandon FL)
157 - Moreno/Weatherman (Moreno wrestled pretty good at 165 during his RS, and KJ is already on record stating he's going 157 he and St. John were decently close in high school.)
165 - Sorenson/Moreno/Spangler (hopefully Sorenson recorvers, i've heard his elbow keeps popping out and will require surgery, Spangler beat the runner-up this year so he has a legitimate shot at AA'ing)
174 - Spangler/England (England was about .500, if Sorenson is healthy Spangler will be here, he will be a AA contender at either weight IMO)
184 - Ward/Riley/Gadsen/Shafer - (rumor is Gadsen's the man at 197 which would mean Ward has to cut down to 184, Riley could develop into a good one, Ward could be great but also can be really bad)
197 - Gadsen/Hawes/Ward (Where-ever Gadsen is i think he's going to AA, maybe not but he's pretty athletic, Shafer showed improvement all year long, he was always able to takedown guys but just couldn't put it together for a whole match, i see him as being a guy like Curran)
HWT - Simonson/Gibson (can Gibson get his academics in order?? also rumor has it Simonson may forgoe his last year for vet school)

Overall we are still a very young team, but the upgrade in talent will be seen immediately. No longer will we have multiple weights w/ walk-ons starting. This is the true start of the KJ tenure. I think we'll be contending for a top 5 finish in des moines in 2013...

    Re: Next Year's Line-up

You forgot Shafer at 184, but I agree. Health and handling weight cuts are going to be keys for next years team. Lots of the teams we wrestled this year are also young. Cornell and Boise State will get hurt the most, the rest lose 1 or 2.

Mentioned it for the benefit of others. I knew you knew that. Then you add in Voelker and Christensen at 184/197, we have alot of depth at those two weights.

Haven't heard that. Look of talk about a heavyweight, but haven't heard about Swopes.

Whats wrong with Gadsen? He was the cornerstone of the upper weights in Jackson's first full class. I was expecting good things from him for years to come.

He got hurt back before Thanksgiving and didn't wrestle again in competition. He's not off the team or anything, just a durability question.

I'd really like to see Gadsen and Ward at 184/197 this next year (don't really care which one is at which weight) with Shafer there to step in if somebody gets hurt or if Gadsen pulls a Weatherman, and then Shafer stepping into the lineup full time after Ward graduates next year.

In the room, does anyone know if spangler beats England? Would be good if Spangler and Sorenson would go different weights and Sorenson stays healthy. Spangler does well at 174.
If Riley could have beat Shafer he would have been wrestling this year, didn't happen and Shafer is getting stronger.
Same with Hawes, didn't see much of him. Can't beat Ward/Gadsen at 197. Maybe Gadsen will go HWT? That guy is huge! Probably as big as Simonson now. Really like Simonson, hope rumor is false and that he will be well and back wrestling his senior year.
