Re: Jackson: Recruiting Key to ISU Wrestling Revival
The problem with Kevin Jackson and recruiting is that all/most of the best wrestlers come from the east coast and theyre going to Penn State and Cael Sanderson...
The kid that lost and I dont remember his name but he said he only considered wrestling for Cael Sanderson and the kid is a fricking freshman....
With nothing to sell at ISU the future looks dim...but its sure bright at State College PA................

I don't know what those juco's did in the room, so I wouldn't jump to that conclusion.
I think we're a better dual meet team next year, but perhaps only marginally better tourney team unless some guys really step it up.

Gibson might straighten around, but don't think Hunter and Hawes will see much if any start time. I want to stay with freshman and not go the JUCO route. I understand we needed more immediate help this year, but JUCO rule should be the exception not the rule.

Thought there were 3 academically ineligible JUCO wrestlers that were brought in this year. Hate to see scholly money wasted like that if they got some......think the third one was Hawes.
Wonder how their grades were prior to moving up to the D1 level.

Wonder how their grades were prior to moving up to the D1 level. Hawes saw some action on varsity this year, including in the second semester, so he wasn't academically ineligible. I assume he just couldn't beat Ward. I wonder if he was brought in with the assumption that Ward would be at 184? That or he was brought in for sorely needed depth, I have no idea.

Re: Jackson: Recruiting Key to ISU Wrestling Revival
This would help recruiting if true:
Word on the street though is that Escobedo and Caldwell, once healthy will be moving to Ames to train freestyle, I hope this is true as it will sure help out in the lower/middle weights. Moves like this will definately attract recruits and make the team better.
I assume Caldwell of North Carolina State (that popped his shoulder out at nationals this year)

I assume Caldwell of North Carolina (that popped his shoulder out at nationals this year) That would be amazing. Guess it might be time to increase my Cyclone Wrestling Club donation.

Re: Jackson: Recruiting Key to ISU Wrestling Revival
Caldwell is from North Carolina State. Provided me one of my favorite wrestling memories when he dominated the so-called unbeatable Metcalf in the finals three years ago

That would really be the proof that KJ can make ISU an Olympic Training Center location, and would definitely help with recruiting. Wrestling for Cael Sanderson is one thing, but if you have a room of guys training for the Olympics, that's something completely different.
