Playing Devil's Advocate: Is it time to drop wrestling?
Schools are dropping the sport left and right and it seems to me ISU has only kept the program because of tradition. Now, that tradition is gone.
ISU is off to an 0-2 start this year and unranked. A litany of no-name colleges are now ranked ahead of ISU in the polls: Lehigh, Cornell, American, Wyoming, Hofstra, Central Michigan, Penn, and mighty Edinboro.
The past is the past. Our once great program is a mere shadow of its former self. Perhaps it is time to follow the lead of many others, drop this dying sport and direct the funds elsewhere.

in all fairness Edinboro has been good for awhile.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. -

You lost all credibility when you said Cornell is a no name wrestling school.

Another "fan" that knows nothing about wrestling.

This year's performance notwithstanding - any men's sport that does not produce revenue will always be looked at very carefully.

Wrestling being dropped will be a last resort. Other sports will be dropped before wrestling. We are not chopped liver when it comes to the sport.

Serious? What a stupid thread.

I won't call myself a wrestling guru by any means, but you don't cut a program that you are a traditional Top 10 team. Yes there have been some down years, especially as of late, but it was only a few years ago where we were a legit top 5 team. Under a new staff the hopes are within a year or two to once again be that top 5 team and a hopeful national title contender.
The OP should play devils advocate on whether or not to post ever again... -

Re: Playing Devil's Advocate: Is it time to drop wrestling?
I think that they're on the way up. KJ has recruited pretty well lately. They just have a rash of injuries and a suspension that killed them this week. By next month, when they have a full roster, I expect them to be pretty competitive (not that I know a ton about wrestling). Also, when the FB team gets their new building, it's rumored that the wrestling team will get the Olsen Building, which will be a huge improvement from where they're at facilities-wise.
Overall, I expect them to improve in the NCAA tourney results each of the next three years.

you are being an advocate, not a devil's advocate.
