Missouri preview and prediction
125: #10 Ryak Finch (8-3) vs. #3 Alan Waters 133: RJ Hallman (4-6) or Shayden Terukina (4-4) vs. #11 Nathan McCormick (8-1) 141: Luke Goettl (0-4) vs. Brandon West (6-5) or Nicholas Hucke (8-2) 149: Joey Cozart (7-5) vs. #14 Kyle Bradley (7-3) 157: Mike Moreno (0-5) vs. #18 Drake Houdashelt (8-2) 165: #4 Andrew Sorenson (11-0) vs. #12 Zach Toal (9-0) 174: #7 Chris Spangler (4-1 vs. #3 Dorian Henderson (8-1) 184: #14 Boaz Beard (5-1) or Mikey England (8-3) vs. #19 Mike Larson (8-1) or Clarance Neely (10-5) 197: Cole Shafer (5-5) vs. #18 Brent Haynes (6-3) HWT: Matt Gibson (8-3) vs. Devin Mellon (7-3)
This is our second best shot at a conference win (the best shot being when we get them at home later in the season). The good news is that they have several guys ranked 14th-18th that we could conceivably pick off. The bad news is that they also have some really good guys at our key weights of 165 and 174. 174 is the match to watch by far. Spangler could take this chance to solidy himself as a favorite to AA and possible finalist. At 165 Sorenson will be facing yet another quality wrestler as he continues his quest towards a championship in his last season. 197 should also be a good match as Shafer gets a chance to show if he can hold his own at that weight against good, but not elite, competition.
Here is my best case scenario: 125: Waters (MU) by decision 0-3 133: McCormick (MU) by decision 0-6 141: Goettl (ISU) by decision 3-6 149: Cozart (ISU) by decision 6-6 157: Moreno (ISU) by decision 9-6 165: Sorenson (ISU) by decision 12-6 174: Spangler (ISU) by decision 15-6 184: Beard (ISU) by decision 18-6 197: Shafer (ISU) by decision 21-6 HWT: Gibson (ISU) by decision 24-6
I don't expect the meet to go like that, but what I want to make clear is that we have a legitimate shot at a win in 8 of the 10 matches.
My more pessimistic prediction is: 125: Waters (MU) by major 0-4 133: McCormick (MU) by major 0-8 141: West (MU) by decision 0-11 149: Bradley (MU) by decision 0-14 157: Houdashelt (MU) by decision 0-17 165: Sorenson (ISU) by decision 3-17 174: Spangler (ISU) by decision 6-17 184: Beard (ISU) by decision 9-17 197: Haynes (MU) by decision 9-20 HWT: Gibson (ISU) by decision 12-20
We match up fairly evenly with Missouri, so the meet could easily swing either way and either team could win by a blowout. Hopefully we'll be able to win the close ones and finally get a dual "W" on the year.

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
I predict ISU will win this one 19-6. The boys will be fired up for this match.
Go Cyclones! -

Go Cyclones! Wll, if we're going to lose five team points for penalties I hope we earn them!
(The total score of a meet will always be between 30 and 60 unless there are deductions)

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
174 Christopher Spangler (Iowa State) vs. Dorian Henderson (Missouri)
184 Michael England (Iowa State) vs. Mike Larson (Missouri)
197 Richard Shafer (Iowa State) vs. Brent Haynes (Missouri)
285 Matthew Gibson (Iowa State) vs. Devon Mellon (Missouri)
125 Ryak Finch (Iowa State) vs. Alan Waters (Missouri)
133 Robert Hallman (Iowa State) vs. Nathan McCormick (Missouri)
141 Luke Goettl (Iowa State) vs. Unknown (Missouri)
149 Joseph Cozart (Iowa State) vs. Kyle Bradley (Missouri)
157 Michael Moreno (Iowa State) vs. Drake Houdashelt (Missouri)
165 Andrew Sorenson (Iowa State) vs. Zach Toal (Missouri)
Looks like we're starting at 174. Beard is out and Hallman will wrestle in place of Shayden. Hopefully Spangler can start us off with a win!

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
Thanks for the updates! Keep 'em comin (unless you can tell me where to find the scores on my own).

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
Shafer gets teched 15-0. Mizzu up 11-3.
Shafer needs to figure out what he's doing at 197, no reason he can't be competitive against most 197 pounders. I never thought I'd say this, but we really could use Ward right now.

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
Gibson lose 3-2, had some shots at the end but couldn't quite close it out. Mizzu is up 14-3 and heavily favored in the next two matches.

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
Finch started strong but wasn't able to keep it up in the second and third periods. loses 13-4, team score is 18-3 Missouri.

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
For the five matches after intermission, they are heavily favored in 1, we are favored in one, and three could go either way.
-
Re: Missouri preview and prediction
McCormick beats Hallman 9-5. Mizzu up 21-3. That could have been a lot worse.
-
Re: Missouri preview and prediction
Goetll wins 6-5 for his first dual victory of the year!!!!! Teasm score is 6-21 in favor of Mizzu.

Re: Missouri preview and prediction
Nice work by Goettl! Hallman's performance was a small step, but still encouraging as well.
