Re: Mudflap's latest report
I was at a funeral last week for a former team mate of Gable's at ISU. He was talking to some of his ISU wrestling team mates and he didn't say anything in regards to what Kentucky Mudflap was saying.

Thorn is intriguing, especially when you factor in his little brother that's a stud 10th(?) grader up in MN. That said, he was never a champ. How about Jayson Ness? I think he's on the bench for Minny.
I'm just throwing out names. I don't know much about Donahue. Ness, I met and National Duals last year and was extremely nice and easy to talk too, Not sure on his role at Minnesota. Mike Thorn is out at Cornell helping out and has a sales job in New York.

I don't know what is mean't by consulting. I personally don't have a problem with it. It might be sitting back in practice and see how KJ and assistants coach and train. I might include how weight cutting is handled, how recruits are selected. Could be anything. As far as I know, KJ might have asked for this. If he has a relationship with Gable and is lost on how to fix some things, I think it is smart for him to evaluate it. IF THIS IS TRUE! I wonder what kind of drilling KJ and Washington are having the wrestlers do in the room? Watching Minn and Miz drill seemed like they were on auto pilot with drills. I don't see that with our wrestlers. I saw active coaching with Oklahoma State right on the mat and after matches again lots of drilling going on....

ISU attendance is low. Probably will go lower. A winner would help with attendance and that would pay a few bills.
Double the coach's salary and ISU will be flooded with opportunities.
I enjoy talking to KJ, he is engaging and enthusiastic but I know Jamie and he won't sit still. He wants the Cy-Hawk trophy every year. He wants to beat Iowa. He wants winners. He wants championships. He wants the women's teams and the lower revenue men's teams to win.
We'll know more in 3 days after the Midlands. Does the ship sail or sink further? Is it true that 3 of our starters will not be wrestling for Midlands?
Spangler and Sorenson will hopefully do well.
The only kind of luck that Kevin Jackson has is bad luck. He can't seem to get a break. I hope his luck changes soon.

Re: Mudflap's latest report
Yes Finch, Moreno and Beard are out.
Beard injuries are minor dings and wanting the guys 100% healthy.

Hmmm...not sure he should be passed off as just being random. He's had good info in the past and there are strong suspicions he's someone close to the Iowa program. The thing with Flap is that though the character is completely, he's not been known to brag up Iowa or run down ISU or other schools. He's pretty even handed.

It's one thing to be tough, well conditioned and to wrestle for bonus points. It's another to be injured and unable to wrestle. Is it a coaching technique that is leading to the injuries?

Is it a coaching technique that is leading to the injuries? That's the biggest question and I'm not sure who knows the answer. If KJ hasn't changed what he's doing in the room, I have a hard time believing it's all coaching as his first two teams weren't nearly THIS injury prone. We've had starters miss some time in the past, but nothing like this. It's depressing for us as fans, so I can't imagine what it's like for the wrestlers.

Re: Mudflap's latest report
Half the team thinks they are better than they are and when the season started and things got tough they got soft. Most of them are more worried about their twitter and facebook accounts than their wrestling

Re: Mudflap's latest report
Also, Gable still very much cares for ISU wrestling and I believe he supports ISU financially. He has a vested interest.

There is something wrong with either the evaluation or the preparation right now. Hopefully this can all get fixed. We are in no position to hire another coach unless we want to break the bank and really spend on the next guy. Bingo
If we were any good, our freshman / sophomores in the starting line-up would have a record like 10-5
In Iowa's glory years---late 1970's, 80's, etc, their SECOND TEAM would be ranked in the top-5 in the country. They had amazing depth
EVERY meet I attended between ISU-IA from 1976-1996?
A low or unranked Hawkeye would 'upset' a ranked ISU wrestle
A 'toss-up' match(es)? Iowa would ALWAy beat the Cyclone
A top-ranked ISU wrestler vs. and average Hawkeye? Instead of pinning the Hawkeye, it was be a 'decision', and not even a major/superior
bottomline? We suck so bad..I feel for the fans out there

I had some experiences with wrestlers in Iowa City in the early years as did some of my hawkeye friends who went to school there. Some of the boorish behavior in Gable's reign was ridiculous. From destroying apartments, to staging scenarios late night at the Ped Mall to incite fights with other students....and the local police calling Gable at 2AM to bail out wrestlers instead of arresting them.
One of my friends lived in the same dorm as Rico Chiapparelli --who regularly terrorized and physically abused a couple underclassmen teammates in the dorm..
Then what would make Larry Eustachy's drinkingexploits seem mild---A naked volleyball party every summer for the Iowa wrestling team, (at a farm outside Iowa city) in the 1980's. Yes, Dan Gable would attend.
With cell phone/camera technology today--it would of made national news
in conclusion--I loathed their wrestling program....admired their mental toughness on the mat
