Carson Powell
Ranked #2 in 3A behind Alex Meyer. He wrestles 170 for Ankeny. Heard he committed to Iowa State. He is the son of Dave Powell, a former AA for Iowa State.

Re: Carson Powell
Seems like a depth recruit. What does he project at, 174? It seems like that weight is set for a while. Seems more likely to be a 165 guy, since that weight is going to be thin next year.

Re: Carson Powell
He not heard anything official. Our team was in Ankeny at a tournament this past weekend and some parents said he was an animal, pinning his guy in the finals.

Re: Carson Powell
I see Joel Lanning is on a pinfest too. I know football and baseball are his big sports, but I wonder if he's also a ranked wrestler.

Re: Carson Powell
Kj likes to get the "legacy" wrestlers in the room. One that he probably doesn't need to throw scholly money when you get legacy. Depth can not be understated also. Depth creates good wrestlers most of the time.
Might be a kid that kj thinks can step up when he gets into the room.

Re: Carson Powell
Any idea on our lineup now? Seems like we have a few coming back and didn't know if we had any try outs recently.

Re: Carson Powell
I don't think you will see much different this week from the Virginia Tech dual
125 -Finch
133 -Hallman (probably), Cash (maybe)
141 - Goettl
149 - Swalla (eventually Mayfield or maybe Weatherman)
157 - Moreno (eventually maybe Weatherman)
165 - Sorenson
174 - England (Spangler took concussion test yesterday)
184 - Beard (eventually maybe Ward)
197 - Shafer (eventually maybe Ward)
Hwt - Gibson
I have a hard time thinking we would pull Boaz (probably an Auto Qualifier for NCAA) and insert Ward. 197 seems more likely to me. KJ did say Jerome is practicing, but going to give his back 3 weeks and see how it feels.

Re: Carson Powell
Looks like 33 65 and 97 are where we need the emphasis put for next year. Not sure who is behind Andrew. Hard to be patient when injuries keep ravaging the lineup. Shafer might be the guy at 97 but I don't see the growth personally.
Buf, keep up the good fight, I see on another board that you get to have exchanges with another hawk kj basher. If that program ever starts to crumble, I wouldn't want to be within 200 miles of Iowa city.

Re: Carson Powell
I think Logan Molina and Mike Moreno would take over 165 after Andrew
With Weatherman, Cozart at 157 and McCauley and Mayfield at 149.

Re: Carson Powell
That would be cool for him to be a Cyclone! I'm an Ankeny native and his dad was my coach when I was younger for the Ankeny Jr. Program...
I have only see him wrestle once this year and a couple of times at the State tournament last year. I watched him against Alex Meyer (Iowa recruit) from SEP this year. That kid is a stud and really dominanted Carson after Carson took him down to start the match. I hope Carson gets a chance to avenge that loss and I am sure he would give him a better match. Would love to have him follow in his dad's footsteps and be a Cyclone! I love it when Ankeny boys become Cyclones!

Re: Carson Powell
Two things help your attendance. First is winning, everyone wants to bandwagon and see what is going on. KJ is working on getting that going again. The second is getting local guys in. People like to go see people they know.
I went to a small school college basketball game, in Iowa, and most of their players were from the east coast. They were lucky to have 50 fans there. Most of the fans were friends or relatives of the opposing team which had Iowa players.
