At any rate, the above isn't going to happen. However, why not just bring Gibbons back as head coach and kill the "advisor" and "coach" bird with one stone?
Bring in Cody Sanderson. It will serve two purposes: 1. He's a good coach, and 2. It would at the very least certainly rattle Cael and the PSU program a bit.
Cody will eventually become the head coach somewhere, so why not here?
A million dollar signing bonus will get most coaches to go to PSU.
I am not a Wrestling fan, but as a Cyclone fan do hope that they can compete at a top level, which Historically they have been able to do. Sanderson was a great Cyclone and left, Dan Gable was a great Cyclone and left. Fred Hoiberg was a great Cyclone and returned. Sure he may leave someday to have resources that match his credentials. It happens but he seems intent on making it happen here. Going with the blue print of Coach Hoiberg and Coach Rhoads, I would look for someone that wants to be a Cyclone, not someone that is just looking for a stop or a job. KJ fit that profile, from what I read here - it is not working out. Whether he is in or out, I would think his replacement would be of the same profile - someone that wants to be a Cyclone
Guys like Heskett and Cody Sanderson would be at the top of the list if all of these 'rumors' were to happen. But unless the team doesn't want him as their coach he'll get at least one more year.
Gable is simply assisting in JP's evaluation of the program. Not coaching or working for ISU full-time.
Also, as has been stated before, KJ may be on the way out. Having Gable here to mentor and give advise to a new coach could be very valuable. Gable wouldn't have to actually coach but could be very instrumental in the rebuilding of the program.
Could see this happening. I have seen Gable proudly wear his ISU Letterman jacket at events.
I wanted this last time as an interim coach with an understudy. God knows, we either improve or drop wresting.
While they aren't winning the Big12, football is as good as it has been since Earle Bruce was here and is on an upward trajectory. We have a coach that we actually want to keep around for the long haul. If that's not good, then I'd like to know what your definition is.
